In the light of lemmy's sad passing thought it was apt that the guitarists didn't grab all the spotlight!
Steve Harris - Iron Maiden Geezer Butler - Sabbath Lemmy - Motorhead Geddy Lee - Rush Jason Newsted - Metallica
All great players, lets have your favs, all genres welcome
just no Sid Vicious

Tina Weymouth Jean Jacques Burnel Kim Deal Paul Raven {RIP} Killing Joke Rainy Rusteee Allen out of Sly Stone and co. Barry Adamson: Magazine, Bad Seeds and such. Rocket Morton Beefheart's bass mangler.
Coincidentally, I was talking about the power of a 'great bass line' last night.
John Lodge is up there....##
Crank up the bass. mesmerisingly fluid...

Another vote here for the incredible John Entwistle. My other fave is Bernard Edwards of Chic. Both sadly not with us.

A completely different style from most of those mentioned so far but any list of great players must include Robbie Shakespeare and Bernard Edwards.

Some great shouts here
I had my fears when I started this thread; luddites always say stuff like who gives a fuck about the bass player but REAL music fans know
Geddy Lee - amazing player but I struggle with his vocals, think that's why I never fully took to Rush but yeah he's fucking boss!
John Entwistle - another wizard
Paul Raven - not just a great player but cool as fuck attitude.
Still think Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) is the metal king though
Bruce Foxton - Yeah the guy's class
surprised no one has mentioned Flea?? Ok the Chilli's are so middle of the road now it's sad but he remains a legend.
Pete Trewavas from Marillion is a seriously good player if you like prog rock.
No mentions for the guys from Queen or Zeppelin either?
Tom Araya from Slayer was mentioned - to be honest I cant hear him on any of their albums since 1985. All focused on drums & guitars more.
Shelley Burke from Budgie - another great pick
This is a pretty impressive bass solo..Lemmy would love this
This is so bad its good..or not!but I used to love this band in my wayward youth
Here's a bit of the ox
