I'm no expert on the subject, but surely John Mcvie should have been mentioned by now?

Anyone watch the BBC4 doc with Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads last night. As with last week's with Stuart Copeland about drums, I was a bit disappointed that little or no reference was made to hard Rock, metal etc.

He posts on 'ere, but mostly over on the footie side. Great chap. xxx ![(thumbsup)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/q4Mqf5MqRwT9PY8UitYa.gif) (Eh up, Dave! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/kwfoKwtHI0jglJZ4qZf6.gif) )

Loads and loads, and loads and loads of careful and close consideration as lead me to re-assess and update my opinions on the bestest bass-er... No contest.

Some great stuff on this thread.
In a lot of bands the bass player is largely in the background and generally goes unnoticed but actually adds a significant amount to the sound.
I play a bit and quite often I’ll filter out the bass track from tunes I’m practising and then add my own in its place. It’s quite staggering just how crap your favourite tunes sound with no bass line in the mix.
Sounds even worse when I’ve added mine 😁

Not sure what I think about that tbh.... I read somewhere that Michael Anthony couldn't play bass at all at the outset although he had a 17 year old me fooled at the Viccy Hall when they supported Sabbath in 1978 !!!!!! They were awesome
