I drove to Blackburn late 80's, thinking that we'd taken a crap following, as I didn't see any fellow supporters on the way. I got to Ewood Park to find that the game has been postponed earlier that morning due to a waterlogged pitch! Oh,the days before the internet and 24/7 news coverage :-)

Some of these fuckers on here should have gone when we were shit...can't remember when we were shit... the reaction of us supporters back then was fuck it on to the next game...but now we have a load of jcl moaning their bollocks off....the internet as a lot to answer for I've been out and about (drinking) today and in the real world (you're perhaps right about this board, I don't know) you couldn't be further from the truth. It's the more mature supporters who are the most pissed off. The kids and the '2008ers' are pretty relaxed. Correct. And think I know the reason why too. The kids have only ever known the Premier League so see no threat to our continued existence there. Older fans carry the mental scars of 24 years in the wilderness between 1984 and 2008 and they see big trouble at every turn!

"A shocking day out". I had a great day out to be honest. Few beers with the lads in a fantastic city watching Stoke, and then a night out after. The game wasn't brilliant but fuck me some folk on here are talking like it was watching a Chris Kamara Stoke team. Get a grip ffs.

Don't want to get involved but I have to say; what at a great city, had a good night out. The locals were amazingly friendly and knowlegible, and complimentary about Stoke City. A fantastic stadium. An amazing display of goal keeping. As we walked out of the ground Geordies were congratulating us on our goalkeeper. Not a bad day, certainly better than the Watford experience.

Oh,the days before the internet and 24/7 news coverage :-) We did the same going to Grimsby. A van load of us made the trip, even when the motorway was down to one lane due to snow we still persisted. The van radio was knackered so we couldn't tune in to anything but static. Finally arrived in Grimsby, found a pub ( the Sealion ) and ordered a pint. ' you here for the game lads ? ' ' sure are mate' ' you come from Stoke then ? ' ' yeah, just arrived' ' shame really, game was called off three hours ago ! ' Happy days.

Who can beat going to Rochdale twice in a week and both games being called off?
Mind you, at least that chippy outside the ground was open.

We got there that night when Little was in charge and they felt so sorry for us they showed us all how bad the pitch was. That chippy was great Dave and their club on the ground also.

I think the game was postponed three or four times. We then invited them to play the game at The Brit and they beat us!
Vintage Stoke.

Vintage Stoke. yes it was I'd forgot about that.We seemed to play them regularly for a while after not playing them for years including the 1st game at the Brit with wet Tarmac.I always remember going 3 up in the 1st half of the area final when Hansson was brilluant.

"Don't you have radios in Stoke, ho, ho, ho" Cheeky twat, they'd only just discovered electricity!

Anyone go to the Norwich game that got called of when we were just outside Norwich in the late 70s, our coaches stopped at a place called Swaffham where much under aged drinking ensued, lucky really the other coaches stopped at some services and totally wrecked the place, the owners were threatening to sue Stoke for damages?

Oh,the days before the internet and 24/7 news coverage :-) Your story reminds me of a day in the 60s when I drove from Birmingham to Leicester to see a Stoke match. I set off early not knowing where I was going (no internet/satnavs etc.) and arrived at Filbert Street about mid-day to find it deserted. I wandered about and found a newsagent and bought a paper to find it was a 7.30 PM kick-off. It was one of the longest days of me life, by the time I got back home. I can't remember any of the match; all I can remember is the pitch was a quagmire under the double decker stand and the Stoke fans sang brilliantly that evening.
