London Bridge after, if I recall correctly. A gent in a white shirt. Bit lively after the game at a T junction before the tube. There's a lad on here who has reinvented himself I've noticed, he got nicked at London Bridge that day, I won't embarrass him by naming him lol

Was this the match when a few met up in a pub in Piccadilly first off and then a long walk down the okr, afterwards it was all on new cross station? It could be, I know we drank somewhere central before, we got the train to elephant and castle then walked the old Kent road, arriving few minutes after kick off if memory serves me right. It was indeed lively at new cross but no comparison to London Bridge where we were, as it were, Bushwacked. Yep that's the one, I think it was about 15 minutes late, I remember 1 lad with us on new cross from goldenhill but a chelsea fan, he got nicked for having a spray he sprayed in a few peoples faces, lively on new cross, did we change at london bridge to get the tube to euston, had to go down the platform and across a concourse where they were?

That's the one mate, the lad with the gas is well known Chelsea/vale but used to guest with us. Good lad and game as but not everyone's cup of cha. He brought a good mate of mine up here who lived in Stoke for several years, was always at the front, cockney D. Was Chelsea too but Trent vale converted him lol.

As you say we did and we lost a few who's arses went on the day, and they swerved a cracker. I'm not ashamed to say that walk and the arrival at CBL, I feared for myself that day. Thought for sure it would come on top in a very bad way. But you roll with it and it maketh the man. Ranks in the top 5 away days for me.

Hey Northy that's just reminded me. I'd completely forgotten about the boxing nights. One of his first fights at Viccy Hall was a good night. Coach load of Nottingham lads seemed to think they owned the place and well, you can guess the rest. Made local headlines again !

Was he mates with the lad who was a bit of a boxer, surname beginning with W Yeah mate, we all are/ were. I don't really see anybody from back then down the match anymore, bumped into a couple of the talke pits lads from that day on the okr in Cologne, hadn't seen a couple of them for 20 years. To the OP, it was a different way of football back then it's what you grew up with, it was nearly always on edge, the trouble kept a lot of people away. One of our first games of the 80's, 80-81 season away at Norwich opening day of the season, we lost 5-1 we went in their end opposite to where the stokies were, great Yarmouth for the weekend, sleeping on benches/ in beach huts, bumping into Stokies in Norwich early morning who'd nicked a van to get there, Yarmouth the Saturday night, lads nicking crates of pils from a pub for sunday morning breakfast, that's how the 80's football started for me and went on for a fair few years, travel, beer and footy with mates.

We're going get banned off here. Maybe but I don't see anyone acting like a dick, insulting anyone, acting like kids by calling people around names, no threats/abuse, or anything remotely worth anyone getting worked up about it. Maybe we're the "normal" ones lol. At least we appear to know how to conduct ourselves. Ain't that strange?

I'm sorry mate, hate to be pedantic but they were from some Derbyshire pit village and their man was fighting Sheffields Johnny Nelson, our boy W was down the bill. I'm sure the trouble was with the Sheffield lot who had a coach as well. It was a while ago so I may be wrong.

Good memories, we only made it as far as Peterborough before our multi skilled driver ran off road into a dyke. Endo and scattered us in four directions. Long story short the van was a wreck, we dumped it there, ended up with him in hospital, tried to get back to Stoke by plane train automobile taxi and horseback. Crazy. And we crashed at 2pm all pissed up so no way would we have made it for KO. Coppers came, shook their heads and laughed at us. Fucked off leaving us there.

Can you recall an incident after one of our home games when the word went round the Talbot there was a coach load of whoever we'd just played drinking in the Old bull n bush. Talbot emptied and with a handful from the Wheatsheaf to help spent the next 10 mins smashing the coach up and trying to get in the pub at the occupants ? Coach was wrecked and most of the pub Windows went through. Turned out they were a rugby team who had just played at staffs uni ! I think they may have come from Nottingham. Somewhere over the years we encountered a coach load from Nottingham. Buggered if I can remember where though. Certainly wasn't the Regent anyway.

Lots of memories from the 80s
On the Clock End in 1983. No segregation, recognized a few faces but we all kept very quiet! I doubt there were more than 30 Stokies at the game.
Everton away on the Glebe buses. 80 gentlemen on each bus, the escort started in Stoke, Police wouldn't let us stop and everyone pissing in bottles (and some other stuff about that day too;)).
Man City away weekday on the special. We were herded on buses then dropped miles from the ground and told to "fuck off" by the police. An eventful walk to the stadium, as I recall.
Starting match day with "cultural half hour" at 10am in the Roman Candle. Cup of coffee and the papers. 10.30 on your blocks for the first ale. Downhill from then on.
4-0 up at half time at St Andrews, Chambo unstoppable.
Ironically in an era of falling crowds, 82/82 was the only season I got close to going home and away every game, only missed four games and was living in Sheffield for most of the season.

Haven't you got a conspiracy theory nut job thread to busy yourself in? This is an adults thread. I'm sure once the posting rate has slowed down then it'll be archived. Til then, how about minding your own business? It's the appropriate way to conduct yourself.

Getting extra 'pocket money' on match days.....£1
Getting a train from Longton for 10p
Mum saying you're not going to the match, they're playing Liverpool
Brother getting arrested outside the ground after the match, plain clothes copper taking him to the police station and walking in to away fans and both getting a kicking, copper says to my brother, go on fuck off, you've had your punishment
Chips egg n beans for tea on Saturday after the match
Missing the last 2 lessons at school so I could go home and polish my docs before catching a double decker bus from Longton to the baseball ground
Going to the boothen turnstile with 90p (remember the 10p train ticket) on the first match of the season only to be told it's not 80p anymore it's gone up to a quid kid, go on, get in but it's a quid next time.
Oh, Almost forgot, standing just down from the Kings arms, at the Broadway traffic lights in Meir on a regular basis, waiting for someone to shout 'it's a forest coach' then bricking it as it came past
Oh and Kung fu stars
Scratched hands n arms through Nesting!
Or was that the 70's??? :-)
See if anyone remembers this........I drove a car round the outer side edge of the pitch before the start of a match one week as a promotional thingy, definitely the 80's on that one !

Yeah I can mate ha ha, we were playing Grimsby and someone ran in the Talbot and shouted "they're in Grays Corner!!!!" As you say, pub emptied en mass and all the windows went through, I stayed well back cos knew the landlord, Mick, but can still recall the bemused faces looking out of the destroyed windows. Oh dear.

That year at Hull, the 'Silver Cod' incident.
After the game we were told to move on by the police who seemed concerned we were attracting the natives attention. Problem was, our van driver had been arrested and he had the van keys. That look of panic on the coppers face as it dawned on him he couldn't move us on to anywhere was priceless.
Eventually we got a lift to Priory Road police station with a van load of Stokies who were minus a couple of their mates who'd suffered a similar fate to our driver. Must of been nearly 30 of us crammed in the back of that van, police couldn't pack us in quick enough. I made the journey standing on one leg holding a piece of rope that was attached to the roof, no room to get both feet on the floor.
Arrived at the station only to be told to go to the pub across the road and wait until they were released. I think they'd got the pub to open just to keep us off the streets as when we walked in it was full of Stoke lads all of whom who'd had mates detained.
Eventually we got on the move again and found some country hotel that had a disco going til 1am. We weren't exactly dressed for the occasion but they let us in. All of us were looking a little rough, some torn clothing and one or two of us with blood stained jeans. Must have looked a bit of a sight to the locals and it wasn't long before we found trouble again, resulting in the bars putting the shutters down and the evening ending well before 12.
One of the doormen said to us ' we had a coach load from Chelsea in here the other week and they weren't anywhere near the trouble you lot have been'. We took that as a compliment and headed of into the night, hurling various items stolen from the venue out of the van as we left.
That day was nothing but trouble from the moment we arrived at the Cross Keys in Hull. The only lull was when the game was on !
