By my estimate a mid-size defeat (2-0) which is about par for this game would leave us second bottom but ahead of Sunderland on alphabetical order, anything worse and we go bottom. Should the unthinkable happen then here are the questions hanging in the autumnal air: *Will Mark Hughes spontaneously combust in the post match interview? *Will the message board go in to meltdown? *Will pwingy be on my case for posting this at all? (I'll answer that one for you, it's YES with bells on!!) *Will an air of prevailing calm remain and in no time we will be mid table again with back to back home wins against hapless Bournemouth and Leicester? *Having warned us and warned us will Benjy contemplate the futility of his existence? *Is it right to ask this difficult hypothetical question at all, it may never happen? In my experience its best to talk these things through up front, if it never happens then great but if it does we are that much better prepared, both mentally and physically

I'll tell you one thing that won't happen and that's me reading this message board for a week or so

Benjaminbuscuit will say I told you so and the gravity is too great to get us out of the relegation zone. At least he will try to say that but it will end up being some unreadable drivel.

Probably get the same tripe on here by the same people that we've had for the two previous seasons
And then they get made to look ridiculous as the season progresses

If we do lose and lets be honest we probably will then the Leicester and Bournemouth games become massive and if we don't win either of these games then I think this message board will go in to meltdown! However I reckon we'll get four points off the two home games and we'll be ok

We dropped into the bottom 3 as late as Feb 1st only 18 months ago and that season we finished 9th.
Anyone who panics this weekend is a moron.

I will get drunk and blame the referee. Stoke will then go on an unbeaten run of 30 games

Irrelevant. We're bringing home all 3 points on Saturday. As I have said before, this is the game that turns the season.

We're only 2 points behind last seasons Premier League Champions!!!
How good is that...
No it means fuck all because nothing should ever be judged this early in the season, if we still haven't won after the Bournemouth game then fair enough but right now have a little control over you emotions haha.
We'll be fine, as always, although I do have a feeling the top half finish again won't be happening this year, which is after I predicted 8th before a ball was kicked this season.
I reckon 11th this year as there are so many good sides this year, 9th again if we can catch a couple of the good starters as our form gets better and better.

Don't expect anything but a goal and a good performance would lift everyone's spirits. But no excuses for the following two home games!

Also I don't get this "we'll be fine" stuff.
I guess the "as always" explains the reasoning. Which is a very dangerous game.

Hopefully what will happen if we go bottom on Saturday is that people will be sensible and treat it as lately irrelevant given we're five games into a 38-game season.

Oh and it's because half of the current back 4 can't defend and the central midfield is pretty piss weak and is only showing slow signs of improvement but I do have a bit of faith in MVG. The right hand side of the defence though? Nah.

Nowt to worry about. It's only just started. If we are still on two points at the end of October however,it may be a different matter.

It is very early days and I'm I won't be too concerned if we get a thraping on Saturday. Regardless of the result this weekend though, there is pressure building on those back to back home games afterwards. We need to win at least one of them or concerns start to become valid.

We will have lost to Liverpool, Arsenal and Michael Oliver - last season we lost early doors at home to Villa and Leicester. The next run of games do increase in importance, but it's waaaaaaay too early to panic!

We've looked awful at times and like a very decent side at times.
