He seems to frequently express obvious exasperation at missed passes or challenges from opponents. The arms go up. The head flicks back. I get it that things don't always go his way and as a striker he's not going to score with every touch. As far as the attention from defenders - well it's a sign that he's doing his job well. The elbow he took today was a bit naughty but there were several other occasions where I felt like he just needs to accept the trip and get on with the game. For the record, I thought he played well today, creating more work for the Liverpool back four than Benteke did for our lads. Maybe he needs to spend more off-field time with Crouch instead of Arnie.

Great heart and spirit. So much tracking back and getting involved. He wants to win and will get back into defensive positions and put himself in the firing line. Gonna have a great season this lad.

To be fair to Diouf, being the lone striker is a frustrating job if you don't get a) good service and b) support when needed. Being the first league game of the season and with two midfielders (Afellay and VG) making their full debuts in an unfamiliar team, it isn't surprising that Diouf had a bit of a frustrating afternoon. He looked better than he did for his first game last season and, once the team has a more settled look he'll be fine I should think.
Having said that, I'd like to have seen Joselu with 20 minutes to go as his mobility and better hold up skills would probably have caused Liverpool some problems. But, Pieters' illness and removal at half time, probably put paid to any plans Hughes may have had to do that.

Diouf was poor yesterday. Can't fault the effort but should have scored the header(Crouch would have)and got something on the great cross. Our delivery into the box from Charlie was unusually good.Shame he wasn't on the end of any of it.

I thought he was a threat all game but our service was poor , far to many poor passes in the final third and poor crosses yesterday also our inability at times to get enough bodies forward especially second half left him and Walters isolated , both of them did well but need better quality service which will come if a few weeks I'm sure

I thought he was fantastic. Harried and hurried the Liverpool backline all day long preventing them from building their attacks like we know they like to.

Players showing frustration? Players disappointed because they care? Whatever next!
Played very well yesterday.

He certainly harried the Liverpool defence and used his pace throughout. Unfortunately most of this was not within striking distance of the goal. Also, he does not hold the ball up or bring other players into play, which means that the midfield does not have time to move up to support him. Other than for set pieces, we seldom had players in their box yesterday. I'm not saying that this is all Diouf's fault, rather a fault of the way the team was set up.

Played really well, was feeding off scraps at times but put the two centre backs under real pressure. Worked his nuts off for little reward.....

The newness of our attacking players showed. We'd have won with Arnie fit, his direct intent and brio would've allowed others to get into space in the box. Both Pulis and Hughes seem to find in acceptable to move strikers onto the wing. They require very different skill sets in my opinion. Wing play is all about carrying the ball. You have to get the fullback and the covering centre back to commit to warding off your threat.

The only problem with Diouf was that he was blowing out of his arse bout 70mins into the game, unfortunately with pieters going off through illness this forced stoke to keep him on the pitch until the final whistle.

I thought he was fantastic. Harried and hurried the Liverpool backline all day long preventing them from building their attacks like we know they like to. Doesn't 'fantastic' for a striker usually mean scoring goals or at least having a shot or header on target. He worked hard but was average yesterday.I don't count 'harrying' as fantastic.
