That we are going into our first game of the season with such a limited first 11
We have dabbled, discussed and deturchitated an improved first 11 but clearly would rather take huge risks than financially shore up a very good first 11
Our support is more critical than ever but why we are left to be the 12th man when we should be looking to build on such strong foundations only the Coates family know.
In Hughes we trust on a wing and a prayer

Having watched Stoke home and away for 30 odd years, I can think of a thousand times I've been 'Shocked and stunned' and now certainly isn't one if them.

I've been shocked and stunned a few times with Stoke but I'm not aware of being 'deturchitated'.

The players that we're chasing, won't see Stoke as Plan A, probably not even Plan B. But as the weeks go by, we slowly become a more viable option. Leave the wrist slitting until after the window closes please.

The truth is probably half way - we are not exactly limited but aren't yet as strong as I believe we should be given the financial rewards from our 9th place finish and the income derived from the sale of some of our prized assets

We could conceivably start Sunday's game with 8 of the players that won our last Premier League fixture 6-1.
Coming into the team could well be a signing from Barcelona who has 50 Holland caps, one who's won 50 England caps and one of England's best young goalkeepers.
If you think that's limited, then fair enough.

Potentially (nothing is guaranteed) we have the best squad ever at Stoke at this time. I also trust Sparky to put out a very strong 11.
Overall I think the only person we have sold that we will miss is NZonzi. Shawcross and Arnie missing is disappointing, but we have managed very well without them in spells last season.
Not shocked, not stunned.

Jesus wept.
By all means be mildly concerned if you like, but if you really are "shocked and stunned" you need to get out more. A sense of perspective (even in a football sense) might also help: most of us can remember having our leading goalscorer sold to a direct rival when we were going for promotion.

We could start with:
Butland
Cameron Wollscheid Muniesa Pieters
Van Ginkel Whelan Adam
Walters Diouf Afellay
and still have (7 of) on the bench:
Given Johnson Bardsley Sidwell Odemwingie Ireland Crouch Joselu Wilson Bojan Moha
4 of that "limited" lot will miss out on the matchday squad!

I think we will probably start with one new signing in the side on Sunday if Arnie is fit.
I think that tells its own story about the window.

For me I think we will be weaker on Sunday than we were at the end of last season. I'm not overly worried but there's definitely a hint of trepidation.
