Four months of last season and two months pre season ? I think that makes six it did when I went to school. 2 months preseason? First friendly was 15th July. What school did you go to? Suggest you ask for a refund. Apologies I presumed they would have returned to training before they played any friendlies, no wonder we keep picking up injuries.

Good grief, is this thread still going.......? Hughes did not fancy Huth as Ryan's partner. Huth wanted games, so we let him go. It was hoped Ryan's back would settle down with rest and non-invasive treatment, as back ops are a big deal. Unfortunately, it now seems, a couple of months after Huth left for good, that Ryan may well need an op. I am sure a short-list of centre backs in whom Hughes does have confidence will be being drawn up, to come in to fill in for Ryan. Why ? do you think he does not trust Huth's replacement that he signed.

Wolly is seen, with Muniesa, as more of a ball playing centre back. Wilson, with Muniesa and Wolly (who is very two footed), is comfortable on the left, whereas both Huth and Shawcross are predominantly right sided. We now need a commanding stopper to replace our injured skipper. I personally feel Cameron has auditioned very well for the role so far this pre-season, but he may be needed at right back with Johnson short of match fitness and Bardsley injured.

I really think we need to move on now from the belief of what Gods Shawcross and Huth were under the Pulis regime. As a club we will not truly advance until we can generate a whole new back line with Muniesa in there somewhere. We can move forward into being a top six side! Hang on for the ride!

It's full of dreary bullshit. At the end of the day, we shouldn't have sold him, but we did, he's gone. It's happened. People need to get over it and actually support the centre backs we have.

I also think there is perhaps more to his departure than what is being said brcause in footballing terms GETTING RID OF huth DID NOT MAKE SENSE.

I'm going to stay positive about Wollscheid. This is a player who at 22 was rated as the third best Bundesliga defender after his season with Nuremburg, pushing a move to Leverkusen for €7m where he had a phenomenal first season (just read their forum), playing 40 times in a team that finished 3rd place, which in turn earned him a call up to the national team (this is Germany we're talking about), and saw him compete in Leverkusen's Champions League games.
He then started the 2013 season well but seems to have fallen apart from 2014 onwards, and wasn't too impressive here, although I think it's worth mentioning he had a few good games, and I wouldn't expect him to set the Prem on fire having been thrown straight into new club in a new country with new players and staff.
What seems abundantly clear from what I've read is that he has an immense amount of talent in his locker. The praise given by Leverkusen fans in his first season especially is very high; and he's even credited as the main reason they got three points away at Bayern Munich.
We are not talking about an unheard of, lower league player who doesn't look like he will ever step up, and we're not talking about a player who is too old to regain his talents. We have a centre half who we need to work with to unlock his huge potential, and if Bojan, Odemwingie, Ireland etc are anything to go by, we are a good club for recapturing lost talent. I think there is reason to stay optimistic about Wooly.

He wanted to play football, he wasn't guaranteed football here. I imagine Robert Huth wanted to stay at Stoke, but he also wanted to play football. One or the other had to give.

The strength of mind of players you have mentioned have always been an asset but it shouldn't be taken for granted that players coming in are not strong. I am not privy to the dressing room but I agree that it is important but there again skill, athleticism, determination and ambition are equally important. Let's hope that we can remain a team with a togetherness that will see us continue to move forward!

Excuse me Metalhead but will you kindly refrain from squashing an enjoyable but totally groundless and slightly deranged conspiracy theory! What else is going to generate another nine pages of nonsense about a popular ex-player without whom we happen to have done better if you behave in this manner?

Micah Richards' fitness and game time is something that will be interesting this season, a free transfer who is also a capable defensive full back & physical centre half. We signed Johnson instead on a free.

I'd prefer it if we'd have kept Huth, but he's gone and that's the end of it.
I might be in a minority of one, but I'm not as pessimistic about Wollsceid as many are on here.
There's no point the fans getting on his back.

Well, not necessarily, but I've taken it upon myself to represent the whole Oatcake membership. We are ALL rooting for you. We understand that it's been a gargantuan effort, just to this point, and we're already eternally grateful, but we believe you have it in you to "keep on truckin'," so that the word can finally get that we shouldn't have sold Huth. (And if you should fall by the wayside at any point, we can be pretty sure that Momo will be there to carry the banner forward.)

Sheiky, why don't you take a trip down the M6 - and give my best to Mr. Pulis I would certainly say hello if I saw him but I'm a Stoke supporter, sfance, you know the thing you backed out of being for a decade because you hated the manager more than you loved the club. Vermin, I think you and your type are called.
