Shawcross is a magnificent defender. It appears he single-handedly made us the 6th best defence in the league last season, and that's with missing half a dozen games as well.
Stuff of legends.

Those saying jn Hughes we trust need to have a careful look at whats gone on here, Hughes did the right thing sending Huth out on loan.It was also a reasonable call bringing Wolly in on loan to see how he would handle the prem, So he could check on Huth's progress at Leicester.....He had a stellar 3 months and looked back to his best He could monitor Shawcross back injury and clearly it was getting worse so we would need decent cover at some time in the future He could check on how wolly coped in the Prem...the outcome was not very well and at times an absolute disaster So based on the above Hughes dumps Huth and based on poor performances from Wolly still signs him rather than send him back to Germany. This has really been an absolute dogs breakfast and I can trust Hughes in so many decisions but not in his judgement of what constitutes a decent CB.The thought of our indifferent CB's in front of a raw inexperienced Butland who has played just 6 prem games has to be a major worry and a situation that could have been eased through better decision making by the manager

Blackburn is just an example of what can happen without strong leadership at the back , people are not being negative but if as it seems our best defender is out for a while with a problem that was well known last season . What are we left with at a time when we are settling in a new goalkeeper and a young lad to replace a very strong midfield player ? . We have one experienced centre half Wilson , who is also playing with an injury , two promising ones , neither of whom are the finished article in Wooly and Muni and maybe Cameron who has never looked comfortable there in the premier league , all I am saying is that given those circumstances to let a very good experienced leader go who has just proved his fitness by having a terrific spell with a club in our league seems daft and is a worry .
It's not wrist slashing I think Hughes has done some good business this summer and expect that the most of the players will do well in time . I don't get this one and I also don't as yet get Joselu who seems way too similar to crouch to bring anything different .

Huth did not start for us last season. he did okay at Leicester in a back 5 but as in the cup run outs for us, he looked very slow on the turn. It is also clear f we want to finish higher in the league, we need to be able to play the ball out from the back and not belt the ball into the stands at the first hint of pressure. look at how the top defenders keep possession and turn defence into attack. That's not Huth's game, but it is Johnson's forte, Muniesa and Pieters were clearly signed for the same reasons as was Wollscheid. Clearly we will be more vulnerable over an extended period without Shawcross but one imagines the management team will have spotted this and be working on it, either with a signing or work on the training ground. At the end of last season we managed a couple of months with only 2 fit front men, Arnie and Diouf as Crouch and Walters had niggles and Moses was out. we found a way of coping and guess we will again

Why wouldn't I be? The evidence is as stated, I'm not going to run around knocking Huth who has been magnificent for the club. However, time has moved on, the team has moved on and very successfully so. Time for a few supporters to do likewise some of whom seem to have forgotten how long we have been without a fit Huth, how well we have done without him and how the requirements for our defensive players has evolved. Ryan was part of that evolution as Captain and leader, and I am afraid we might struggle without a leader at the back, especially having a new goalkeeper as well. I think it was a mistake selling Huth, considering who he was replaced with; however, I will back our manager and our lads. Sad to see him play for another club though, he knows how to lead at the back. And Score... 3 goals since 2012. Prolific.

I don't know why people are still hung up on Huth. In his prime he did well at Stoke, but playing in a back 8 any CB would of come out looking good. At Leicester he played in a back 5 so had 2 others as cover. When Huth played for us under Hughes in the cup games it was obvious he struggled without the cover he had been used to. Last year without Huth in the side and numerous injuries at the back we still managed to concede less goals then any season with Huth at the back, and thus while playing a back 4 plus Whelan as a defensive cover. We will have some problems this year not due to not having Huth, but from not having Shawcross unless we can get a good partnership between the 6 other CB's we have on the books

Huth has gone, time to move on, but for what it's worth I would have absolutely tried to keep him for this season, with the Shawcross (and Muniesa) injury concerns and an inexperienced goalkeeper in his first Premier League season. Huth probably wanted, and deserved, the Leicester move though so it would have been hard to keep him in those circumstances. A bit harsh to say that Huth looked good because he was leaning on 2 other centre halves at Leicester too. 'Best defender since Matt Elliott' seems the line from Leicester, which is quite a compliment from them, and Leicester's 2 wing backs were very much attacking players - so Huth got little support from them. It was very much a back 3 at times. I've been away on holiday and missed the pre season games. At the end of last season every central defender on the books (including Cameron) seemed ahead of Wolly in the pecking order. Are we looking at Wilson and Muniesa without Shawcross?

Huth last year was affected by his injury not by a lack of cover! He has now had 6 months of being injury free and would have performed well if given the chance! The current 5 centre backs other than Ryan: Wollscheid - terribly slow, weak, Looks a liability defensively! Ok with the ball at his feet! Cameron - pacy, strong, decent tackler but Positionally very poor, has struggled when played centre back for the USA! Wilson - slow, lacks concentration and makes 1 costly mistake a game! Decent on the ball however and strong! Muniesa - best of the 6 But too small when competing aerially with players like lambert, Benteke etc! Injury prone and Positionally poor at times! However he is exceptional on the ball, determined and will be a good player given time! Teixiera - looked no where near a premier league cb in his few appearances!

In my opinion and Higginbotham's opinion and many others on here by the looks of things this decision to let Huth go was wrong.
