Villa and Liverpool have agreed a fee for Christian Benteke of £32.5million.
£49 million for Sterling.
£8 million for Jonny Evans.
Has the world gone stark raving mad?

Benteke is very young with a lot of potential , in today's market it's probably about right

It's a big, bad world out there that 'little old Stoke' are now travelling in - get used to it. Maybe madness to some but to the top dogs, it's always been cut throat. Compete or leave the top table. Reality can look chilling outside North Staffordshire.

In the current market they're getting value for money.
Benteke is a top top player who carries Villa's entire goal threat on his shoulders. Quick, strong, good in the air and scores with his feet. If Liverpool create chances and keep him and Sturridge fit then they could challenge the top 4 again.
Villa will be in the mire now, let's see how long Delph's loyalty lasts.

He's a goal scorer.
49 goals in 100 games for Villa (42 in 88 in the prem).
He was always going to go for big money. And well worth it too.

Not worth it, too lazy. However, Benzema at £40mill is bang on the money and is a great piece of biz for the arse if they can pull it off.

Brendan might be about to land this years Balotelli. It's an annual traditional with Rodgers Joe. Benteke and Balotelli....has the potential to be the laziest and most petulant strike force ever seen in the Prem. They'll need two world class wingers to keep those two fed.

If we had a player that had scored as many as him over the last 3 years we'd be demanding 50 mill on here.
Oatcake logic.

Wonder if Aston villa will get a bit carried away and sign this years cornelius. They'll find it hard to find a decent goal scorer with everyone knowing how much they have to spend.

£32.5M is his buy out clause which is inflated for a reason.

Yep its a crazy world when those figures are paid and Bego and Zonz go for a combined fee which is half that value. Hard to explain. As for Villa 32.5m in and 12m out for Charlie Austin...20m in the bank and hardly a change to last seasons goals scored column. Smart business in my world.

Villa are screwed without him. You wouldn't think so with an extra £32.5M in their back pockets..... If they are, then somethings seriously wrong with whoever handles the signing of players!!!

Doesn't matter whether we think it's worth it or not quite simply....the decnt players (especially goalscorers) tend to have release clauses in their contracts nowadays.the club will make sure it's 1) big enough to put most off as they want to keep the player and 2) big enough so if anyone meets it they know they can use that to get 2 or 3 replacements in.
it's not as if anyone has bid 32 mill because they think he's worth that,it's simply because they have to bid that if they want him! It's either that or take a huge gamble on a player who's less proven and hoping they come good...the bigger clubs tend to shy away from those kinds of gambles and as it's only bigger clubs that can afford to meet these valuations,32 mill for man utd. is about the equivalent of 10 mill for us

Villa and Liverpool have agreed a fee for Christian Benteke of £32.5million. £49 million for Sterling. £8 million for Jonny Evans. Has the world gone stark raving mad? It's pure economics i.e. supply and demand! The supply of top players is very limited and that pushes up prices. Add to this, factors like the t.v. monies coming in at the end of the season, revenues from CL football, the need for a quota of home grown players etc. this inflates prices

Villa are screwed without him. You wouldn't think so with an extra £32.5M in their back pockets..... If they are, then somethings seriously wrong with whoever handles the signing of players!!! Who of his calibre could they attract then? Do you think if we got £20m for Bojan it'd mean we could automatically go out there and get someone like Modric? This is a huge blow.

Austin, in a team obviously worse than Villa (relegated) 18 goals in 35 appearances.... Berahino, in a team that hardly set the premiership alight, 20 goals in 45 appearances.... Diouf, 12 goals in 38 appearances.... We could argue the point forever, but it would seriously get tedious!!! Just to reiterate my original point... With an extra £32.5M in their pockets, I hardly think Villa will be doomed, it's just a question of scouting for the right players and management!!!

Back in Jan before Benteke hit form and was off radar to the big teams it was him and Austin I wanted us to be in for so you don't need to tell me how good Austin is, I'd pay the £15m for him. He's not as quick or as powerful as Benteke though. Benteke has done it over 3 years. We'll leave this here and re-visit when Villa are in dire straights next May
