Second phase, syphoning off completed at the weekend. Had a snifter to check the progress earlier. Cloudy yet, but certainly tastes like boooze.

So a recent pressie was being 'upgraded' to Titanic's First Class loyalty scheme. If you don't know Titanic run a basic loyalty card scheme for free where you collects points (for ale or clobber) per pint and a free pint on your birthday etc. First Class gives me a £1 a week off beer, 2 bottles of any ale and a funky Titanic pint mug, a polo shirt, a smart Titanic Brewery enamel badge, a free brewery tour, more points per pint throughout the year and a posh Platinum coloured credit card thingy to flash over the bar when I get served. As the pressie was from my brother I'm not sure if the polo shirt is a piss take or not........ Attachment Deleted

RAN Ales Rum and Raisin Stout on at the Owd Bulls Head in Castle. Ridiculously easy to drink. Smooth flavoursome and a sneaky 5.3%. They've also got Colchester No.1 as well which is a very, very nice light amber 4.1%. Proper little real ale brewed near Chappell village in Essex hence the Chappell steam railway viaduct on the pump badge. Just down the Colne Valley from Wakes Colne who have a steam and real ale festival in the Summer. Late night aleing in the engine sheds If anyone is in that area this weekend get thee sen to the Bures Music Festival. Folky, arty, ale-y. The brother in law's blues band is playing a set tomorrow. BottleCraft (Hanley) is moving to a new venue on Piccadilly next Friday. Great little place for a beer that first opened back in 2015 and has gone from strength to strength. As much as Hanley has its problems there are some excellent small business ventures popping up along Picadilly (BottleCraft, TSP, Klay etc.) not to mention the footfall from the theatre. www.bottlecraft.beer/single-post/2017/07/04/Hello-Goodbye

I might try to get to the closing night. BottleCraft is a great place. Vast array of bottles and always something interesting on tap. Knowledgeable folk behind the pumps. Good luck to all at BC with the big move

Happily married mate but it's fair to say there's a glint in the ladies eye's almost as sharp as the one from my Titanic Brewery enamel badge Haven't been to the vaults in ages. A little too popular for my tastes but nice during the day in the week.

London Road Ale House.If you're in the great Metropolis that's is downtown Stoke get thee sen to the Ale House and sample a Blackcurrant & Licorice Stout. What an absolute belter! Not heavy or chewy very, very drinkable. Brewed exclusively for the LRAH over the Cheshire border by Happy Valley Brewery
First thing that hits you is that licorice smell you used to get from those posh licorice toffees you had for Christmas as a kid. Super smooth to drink with a lovely bitter, sweet blackcurrant fizz at the end. Lovely. Attachment Deleted

Sounds good that Rog. We had Snecklifter as one of the guest ales last week. Something I'm still unsure of, see it as the last drink rather than any kind of session ale.
If things go to plan {which they often don't} I'm having a 'booze off' later. My homebrew vs my mates Mead.
He's gone big into mead production, and while it may be a pipedream he's considering up scaling.
Different {and longer} process than ale, using large quantities of mail order honey and a brew that can be 12%.
{me dice rolling might be affected.}
Should be going to the U23's really, but stuff to do {and drink.}
Chin chin.

Currently sipping 2/3 of a Gosnells Mead :-) No pressure but if your mate's is owt like this you'll have to go some in your beer-off. Light, sweet with a touch of sparkling bubbles your brain starts to think cider until the honey comes in. 5.5% but going down like a J2O on a hot day!

I didn't realise they were playing today until too late. Stuff to do etc. I know I can't compete for strength of brew, but I'm hoping to swing it with me very local angle etc and the bittersweet floral notes of the elderflower. But don't mind losing in this one. It's the taking part that counts.

So I bobbed into BottleCraft's new premises on Satdee. Right next to the Regent on Piccadilly up 'Anley Duck. It's a much better location although the layout is different. Smaller downstairs than the old BottleCraft was in total but an upstairs with 5 - 6 tables makes it a good size and the window gives a great view of the despicable street life below. As far as bottle shop/craft ale shops go it's a decent size. Seemingly less shelves of weird and wonderful bottles to peruse downstairs and it's a bit tight for seats but more pumps, up to about 10, with a great selection. Everything is sold in 1/3's, so a pint by way of three tasting thirds is popular for those wanting to sample. I tried 2/3's of Tropic Fiesta IPA a 4% session hoppy ale from Beatnikz Republic Brewing Co. The blurb say's "Tropic Fiesta is inspired by those long sunny hedonistic days spent with friends." I'm not sure I have the energy to revisit my long sunny hedonistic days but it was a refreshing, tangy, hoppy delight. I also had 2/3's of the Mead from Gosnells Meadery in London. Surprisingly enjoyable. My favourite tipple of the weekend to be honest. Ever so slightly sparkling with a honey sweetness. 5.5% but it didn't last long

So I've only gone and done it. Beer from a can Beavertown's Smog Rocket Smoked Porter Attachment DeletedI hate to say it but I'm converted. It was really good. The ale it's self was as you'd expect from a smoky porter. It does what is say's on the tin The other thing that struck me was the can 'art'. This one is a bit tame for Beavertown but check out their others here Flying Dog brewery have a Gerald Scarfe-esque theme with their bottle art a kind of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas vibe. Very hipster. I think this explains why a lot of mainstream brewers are producing funky pump badges and the like.

Crikey Bobs, Newcastle's environs are again blazing a trail on the Ale front. TWO new micro pubs opened/opening. The Artisan Tap in Hartshill right next door to the Old House at Home on the High Street. An enlargement of the Artisan Cafe next door. Extremely funky layout with trendy mis-matched chairs and tables, a great selection of ale and a killer courtyard out front that gets the sun and allows for smokers. Very impressive. I can see this being uber popular throughout the Summer. I had a couple of Brock creamy stout's from the Thornbridge Brewery. Lovely, easy drinking at 4.1%. Next up is the The Cask Bar (opposite the Museum on Hamburger Hill) not even open yet..... but watch this space. The Big Vic in Maybank has started putting on a surprisingly good range of Ales on rotation. About 5 or 6 of them. Well worth a visit. I know it's a 'chained' Ember Inn but credit where credit is due. Nowt wrong with it. Also, I bobbed in by accident at the beginning of last week only to find that they're all £2.49 pint on Monday's. Titanic's Plum Porter had never tasted better

One thing the best real ale places in Newcastle / Hartshill seem to lack is a good beer garden at this time of year. The Greyhound is probably the pick of the bunch from midday - late afternoon.

Strolling around sunny Sheffield pre-match on Tuesday evening, we called into the Sentinel Brewhouse on Shoreham Street. I can thoroughly recommend their IPA but everything we tried was a top drawer drink. If you ever find yourself in the People's Republic of South Yorkshire, get down there.

Geordie kit, light cane sugar, local honey, lemon balm flowers, Brown Edge* well water = 'The Embalmer'. Light citrusy/sherbert knee trembler of an ale. Put a few participants to rest. On the bubble, first phase fermentation, lifting the lid. OG 1018.
*Endon well water had a 'not fit for human consumption' {high levels of Manganese} notice. Unfortunately. First time brewing with Brown Edge water, only a trickle, took two hours to fill the jerry.

The Embalmer {Brown Edge Sytch Well water etc} rocked in at an {un}healthy 7.23% after the initial fermentation according to the hydrometer readings and calculator. A fortnight to clear/mature/round off... It won't be a session ale by any stretch.

Popped into a 'Moor Beer' brewery by the GFs place in Bristol.
Nice ale but quite pricey at around £5 per pint.
I had a PMA and she had a dark ale (6.7%).
