I know people (Hughes included) talked down the fact that he refused to sit on the bench (not the first time he refused to play) but I find it hard to see how it can't have been down to being unprofessional. It's not much different than me going into work tomorrow morning, being told I might be needed to cover for someone in the afternoon, and refusing to make myself available. Begovic was a great player for Stoke, and I'm disappointed to see him leave the club, but there are ways to go about things and I don't think he always chose the right way.

I hope he plays against us and Charlie mugs him off from our own half.

If you did that in my company you would be encouraged to find a new job, you just wouldn't have the ethos we would want, Bego got off lightly really!

Good luck to him and all that, but.... kicked off here and refused to sit on the bench, so he's gone to Chelsea to... erm....

What!? £5 million profit from a player who was influential in cementing our Premier League status and the 12 month loan signing of a very capable midfielder....and a future England international goalkeeper as a replacement! Bye bye Begovic!

Best of wishes to Asmir for his outstanding service and professionalism.
He was the consummate professional representing Stoke City on MOTD and radio programmes where who spoke with authority and was highly respected by the media. He was above all a gentleman, and I liken him to the great Gordon Banks.
The moment he gets his chance I think Mourinho may have a decision to make because I rate potentially as a better keeper than Courtois. It may take a season but I think he'll be their No.1, and winning trophies. He deserves the chance to move to a trophy winning team Unfortunately we never will be a regular trophy winning club and that is why the likes of Begovic must move on. Fact of life. Hopefully we can snatch the odd cup in the next ten years. Chelsea may win 10/15 trophies in the next ten years.
Good luck Asmir. I wish you all of the best of luck.

I only have fond memories of him. Some great saves over the years, an inspiring keeper. Good luck Bego and thanks for a first class spell with us.

When they read out the subs I will give him some polite applause, he has been a good player ans now has been moved out to make room for a better one Hopefully What does that even mean? Polite applause? Do you actually begrudge him the move? Asmir has been constantly linked with bigger teams in the past and has acted incredibly dignified. He's 28 and this is his last chance to really go for it with regards to CL football. I can't stand Chelsea football club, but I'll say this now, when he plays, I will absolutely want him to do well, because I believe that's what sets us apart from other clubs. We show our players loyalty, including former players. The day we start slagging off our ex players, simply because they moved for footballing reasons, is the day we become fucking Arsenal. Not slagging him off at all, Stoke wanted him to move on and he has got a good deal for all concerned, I just don't see him getting much game time. £4 million a year should ease the pain.

I agree with all of that but can't help thinking the media performances were designed to increase his profile. Fair play though, that's how it works nowadays. Was a demon betwixt the sticks, hope Butty evolves similarly

Bego joins a long list of goal keeping legends at Stoke. Denis Herrod, Jimmy O'Neill, John Farmer, Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton, Peter Fox, Simmo, Sorro, Bego and now Butland. We really have been blessed with great keepers. No doubt missed a few as well.

Anybody who slagged off Asmir wants their head looking at
He has been brilliant for us on and off the pitch
Yes I wish he had stayed
But I hope he has a great time at Chelski - and I hate Cheski more than Man Utd, he is one of the best goalkeepers in World football and hope he gets the chance to play on the world stage
We were very lucky to have him
And who knows Jack B could prove to be just as good

Asmir had great presence both in goal and off it.
His eloquence, humility and amiability was appreciated by the media and personally confirmed by those of us who attended a live programme with Asmir the main guest, at the Sky studios last season.
I wish him well and hope to encounter him in our local Waitrose, now that he will be sharing my territory!
Meanwhile the blow is softened by his somewhat surprising successors, not least the excellent performance of our new number three (for the moment) who did so well in Singapore, yesterday.

Leaving to sit on the bench basically for the money he has slipped back i my estimation.I thought he wanted to play football but the lure of the rouble proved me wrong. No one would be bothered if he had gone to a side in the CL to be first choice and i expected that but toplay second fiddle warming his arse on the bench...sell out.

You wonder if De Gea goes whether he should have waited? He'd been excellent for Man Utd.

You wonder if De Gea goes whether he should have waited? He'd been excellent for Man Utd. For all the rights & wrongs of his time here, he was always going to go & now is gone, so I wish him well.
To me, players moving up the food chain from here positions us well for signings.
But I also wonder if he will rue his haste to move to Chelsea, when the GK landscape is quite obviously shifting in front of our eyes in LVG land.
Quite sure he could have been #1 at United had he waited. Not anywhere near so sure that he will be that at Chelsea anytime soon, no matter how confident he is of his own ability.
And, above all, I am still confused if there ever was a loan / sweetener attached to his departure?

personally i thank him for what he did for us when he was here....
however, he isn't anymore so i don't give a shit what happens to him now.why should i?
they get paid a shitload and know what they're doing. he doesn't play for Stoke anymore so whether he gets first team football or (as i suspect) spends the next few years warming someone's bench doesn't bother me in the slightest. he's a big boy and can look after himself
