Gutted he has gone but it was always inevitable.
I really do wish him all the best but I cannot see anything else other than frustration for him as he fails to dislodge Courtois as the number 1.

Real
On the face of it a huge opportunity missed to leverage a deal for a Moses or a Remy the optimistic will say wait and see for me id have made Bego wait until Aug 31st if necessary we now have another £8 million on top of the £7 million for SN but show little sign of reinvesting it in the much talked about by the CEO next level

My have we been spoiled for keepers these past few years! I wish Asmir well at Chelsea and am excited to see Jack get his chance.

So, if MVG wasn't the linked loanee and the Bego deal took longer (we thought) because the loanee who was part of the deal couldn't be agreed (which made no sense as we could only ever have one Chelsea loanee anyway), and the price (£8m) doesn't seem to have gone up in respect of us not getting the latter loanee and Moses still appears to be shunning our advances...
...what's going on here exactly?
Something, somewhere doesn't figure. Didn't really take much longer though, did it? We signed Van Ginkel on Friday. Bego moved today. Don't think any signings can be completed on the weekend so it really was only a day later. Totally agree nutter.
It was just that MVG was quoted as saying that his own & the Bego deal were separate?
Logic suggests it was him and he didn't know:
"Pack yer boots Marco, M1, M6, Jnct 15... and look for the chimneys..."

Sorenson was nowhere near as good as Asmir when Asmir was at his peak with us IMO. Sorenson in his first few seasons with us was absolutely class. Not disagreeing with Tommy's impact at all. I just don't believe he ever reached the quality that Asmir was pulling off every week for us after he took over.

Probably the best goalkeeper I'll ever see play for Stoke. There's no denying that he had his shaky moments for us in his last season, but I believe they felt worse than they were due to how consistently brilliant he had been before then. I wouldn't call any of our players world class - nowhere near in fact, but the saves he was pulling off every week during the end of the Pulis era and and the start of Hughes' were genuinely of that level. It was a wonder that he was playing for a team like us. I don't believe for one second that if he recaptures that form, he'll be sitting on the bench, no matter how highly rated Courtious is. Just a massive shame that he's joined the scummiest club in world football. If you saw Sorensen in his first 3 years with us, you've seen a better keeper than asmir. Asmir has the potential to be the one of the best in the world. He won't fulfil that potential sat on his arse at Chelsea. Don't agree about Sorensen. He was good but Begovic is definitely the best keeper I've seen for Stoke - absolutely outstanding before last season.

Too good a keeper to be a number 2.
I understand that he will be confident in his own ability but surely he knows that he isn't going to play in the big games unless Courtois gets injured.

B) Is it not better to get it done early to allow time for a replacement be identified, signed and given time to settle in? C) We are bidding huge sums of money for players. We are clearly prepared to spend.

Indeed but he has probably doubled his money and at 28 he is probably not going to get too many more chances at a move like this, worst case scenario in 2 years or so if it hasn't worked out even by just playing cup games and early round champions league his profile will have raised enough for him to get a higher profile club than 2 more years at Stoke would get him

There would have been absolutely no animosity had he joined a bigger club with at least a shout of holding the number 1 spot.
As it happens, he's followed the big lights and mega bucks all the way to the bench for the foreseeable at Chelsea; I wish him nothing but career stagnation and regret that he duped us out of £millions by having no interest in signing a new deal.
Greedy bastard.

Good luck to him.
He needs to go and slug it out with a top keeper if he wants to play for a team that wins trophies.
It's a massive challenge but he'd look back with regret if he didn't try. I'm sure it was difficult getting in teams ahead of David James and Sorensen; I certainly wouldn't back against him managing it again no matter how unlikely it seems

I wonder if his head will be in the right frame of mind to sit on the bench now he's getting 80k a week? He was a good keeper in his first few years but last season he was absolutely shite. Glad he has gone and we now have Butland between the sticks.

Unless you're suggesting that we're just making the offers for a laugh?

Been a great keeper for Stoke and won us a fair few points in the dying minutes of games where we were hanging on.
Still, having said that, he isn't a Stokie anymore so he can piss off. Nice new seat for you at Stoke Asmir !

If Begovic rediscovers his form from the season before last he will dislodge Courtois, Bego really is that good. Sometimes we don't realise what we have until it's gone. Bego will be a massive miss next season, bigger than Zonz in my opinion.

Maybe I'm one of the few who grow to love our players, not just because of the patch on their shirts. I wish Begovic the best, and hope he kind find success at chelsea. He was a huge part of our success these last few seasons. I don't doubt he loves us as fans, and I'm sure he will always look back at his stoke days in favor. we have to understand this is a business for the players in the end.
