Real On the face of it a huge opportunity missed to leverage a deal for a Moses or a Remy the optimistic will say wait and see for me id have made Bego wait until Aug 31st if necessary we now have another £8 million on top of the £7 million for SN but show little sign of reinvesting it in the much talked about by the CEO next level Hmmm trying to sign Kono by offering a £10m signing on fee, £75,000 in wages and having a £12m bid accepted for Shaqiri certainly suggests we aren't trying to spend the money, doesn't it? Just to clarify, no one actually said we offered him 10 mil signing on fee, it was just someone making an example of how the offer could be structured. Oatcake myth strikes again

I really shouldn't be surprised that people on here are putting such a negative spin on this transfer. Asmir has been a bloody good player and we've doubled our money on him. We were always going to be a stepping stone for him, so I have no problem with him going to Chelsea. He's a top pro and has always spoke highly of us and did a lot for the local community. Best of luck Asmir.

And the fact that Nixon kept on saying 'our offer would not be beaten', I believe it.

It costs nothing to make an offer Your point being what? Benji said there was no sign of us attempting to spend money and NP gave him two very good examples to demonstrate that wasn't true. Unless you're suggesting that we're just making the offers for a laugh? Calm down, it's just a dicussion....I'm not suggesting anything of the sort There are many good business reasons for us to be "seen" as looking to buy such players. I hope we are but, until we do I'll stay with my views

I'm sure we all wish him the best. I hope all our players play out of their skin, get us higher up the league, earn us more money then good transfer fees to take us to another level. As long as we don't get ahead of ourselves and its with good business sense. Let the ride continue.
Begos earned his big money transfer and in the past has earned enough points to keep us in this league as part of a team.

Kerching!! Happy days again for the owners and shareholders of Bet 365. But the fee merely adds to the argument that it's been a very poor window so far

Too good a keeper to be a number 2. I understand that he will be confident in his own ability but surely he knows that he isn't going to play in the big games unless Courtois gets injured. Indeed but he has probably doubled his money and at 28 he is probably not going to get too many more chances at a move like this, worst case scenario in 2 years or so if it hasn't worked out even by just playing cup games and early round champions league his profile will have raised enough for him to get a higher profile club than 2 more years at Stoke would get him Nah,can't agree with that at all mate. He knows full well that he is going to be No.2 behind one of the world's best keepers, who is going to keep getting better due to his age. It shows a lack of ambition if you ask me,because his career isn't going to progress sitting on his arse for all the major games,he won't play in the premier league or the Champions League unless Courtois gets injured so I really don't see how he is going to further his career there. Money can be the only motivation because while he might pick up a medal or two,he certainly won't have earned them sitting on his arse cheering on the first eleven.

If Begovic rediscovers his form from the season before last he will dislodge Courtois, Bego really is that good. Sometimes we don't realise what we have until it's gone. Bego will be a massive miss next season, bigger than Zonz in my opinion. His distribution is nowhere near good enough to dislodge Courtois.

Thanks Bego. Now take one of our DVD's to remember how it felt playing in a competitive match, Because it's going to be a while before you sample it again.

To be honest did Bego actually want to go I personally think not as his family are settled here and so was he in this areA. Or is it a case of we can't keep two world class( potentially that is ) keepers happy and that Bego sees himself playing more games Chelsea wise cup and Europe etc ?

Nothing like a good transfer to bring out the shithouses eh? Fuck me. Bego has been absolutely class for us. Quite possibly our own truly world class player (and I do believe that about him), and now he's moved onto a bigger team, some turnips have to abuse him despite all of his service?
Fuck the lot of you! When he returns I will be on my feet applauding him, even if I'm the only one in Block 23. Luckily, I know I won't be, because it's only the minority who slag off a player who's done as much as Asmir has for this club!!!

Polite applause? Do you actually begrudge him the move? Asmir has been constantly linked with bigger teams in the past and has acted incredibly dignified. He's 28 and this is his last chance to really go for it with regards to CL football. I can't stand Chelsea football club, but I'll say this now, when he plays, I will absolutely want him to do well, because I believe that's what sets us apart from other clubs. We show our players loyalty, including former players. The day we start slagging off our ex players, simply because they moved for footballing reasons, is the day we become fucking Arsenal.

Nothing like a good transfer to bring out the shithouses eh? Yeah selling a player but also buying a player, or being linked with a player, or not being linked with a player, or another club buying a player, or another club selling a player, or losing a game, or drawing a game, or goal celebrations pretty much everything really.

Cheers Asmir. Cracking signing.
Now onto Jack. Good luck at being our number one. You've got some big boots to follow. We've done alright with keepers over the years and us Stoke fans need to be patient with the lad. Shay Given is a shrewd signing and will help out Butland in the coming seasons. I have every faith in our new number one!
Lets face it Begovic and N'zonzi are only the first of our big players to move on. We will inevitably face this situation again, maybe Bojan next summer. Its how we re build, recover and move on thats key....see Southampton.

Question. Why has a 33 year old Petr Cech, who has won the lot, moved to Arsenal for first team football and Asmir Begovic, at 28, gone to Chelsea to sit on the bench?

We will never know the answer mate....money, prestige of playing for Chelsea, London, believes in his own ability, trophies. Its the money ain't it?!
