Testing times for the club - we stand on the edge of making the same mistakes that so many middle ranking outfits have before.

Claus, why would we extend JW's contract, he's got another year to run as it is.

Because I think he could be of good use to us for two more seasons

I, too, am a little surprised that Jon has 'allowed' this to go public.
I trust the club to do the right thing.
I like Jon and what he's done for us but he's increasingly reliant on the new level of player we're bringing in to provide his goal scoring opportunities and I don't think he'd score a hatful for, say, a Championship side without the same creativity around him.
Good luck to you Jon if you decide to move on but I hope you'll recognise how good you've got it at Stoke and stay...

If players can't handle the fact that some of them are worth more than others then they should move on and get themselves a better deal.

I'd be staggered if even TP would contemplate a fee and a three year contract for Jon Boy. Even two years would be a push but a possibility. What would his market value be though? £2 million tops? Wouldn't be stunned if TP offered him 3 years? That'd take him to just short of his 35th birthday. He wasn't worried about splashing £12m on Crouchy when he was a year younger than Walters is now. Admittedly, Walters' game is a lot more running and power-based, but if there's one man you think would offer him something long-term, it's TP. Even an ageing Walters has a lot of the intangibles that TP loves. Suppose it depends if TP is 100% in charge of the transfer operation at West Brom?

Remin me when he spat his dummy out before? -genuine question I have no memory of that-
If I'm not playing I'll have to consider my options.....
Ring a bell? Start of the season I think, maybe last.
I've no problem with the club offering Walters a new deal, but for him to be chubbing about being a top earner then sorry, he can jog the fuck on.
yes that rings a bell I thought what he said then was perfectly reasonable,no spiiting of dummies bit different now maybe

I like SJW and would like him to stay.
However, comments like the ones he is making run the risk of changing the consonant in "cult status".

He has been a good servant and popular with the fans. Doubt that many of us enjoy getting older but it is inevitable. Just can't see someone of his age attracting top wages. He needs to decide whether to accept the likelihood of less game time or move on. Wish him well whatever his choice is.

If we get rid of players like Walters we will self implode and disappear back into obscurity. That's my take on the comment anyway, same as we did when tone went.

We become slightly obsessed with 'targets' that appear to have little or no motivation to join the club and get a tadge complacent about what we already have. Not saying it will happen because the management should have the experience and nous required.

Indeed that's the very thing that Walters is whining about.

Because I think he could be of good use to us for two more seasons He might well be and he scored 10 goals last seaon too. A contract extension may well be warranted It's all about the £££ though Either he is being greedy/unrealistic or he isn't & without knowing the numbers it's hard to judge.

I don't think we should offer him one because as someone said earlier the average age of our frontline is a concern. Wingie, Jon and Crouchie will do us for next season but nothing more really imo.

This is the problem with breaking the wage structure we formally had. Top earners will get inflated egos, lower earners will start getting jealous. Matter of the fact is Bojan, Zonz and Shawcross should be the top earners as they are worth the most money. Walters should be offered a similar contract to what he's on now, if he wants more, let him try find It elsewhere, because he won't. So long as it doesn't affect team spirit too much

Nothing specifically to do with Walters I'm just saying that we are on the edge of becoming a club where there are massive variations in salary structures and the effect that has can be very very destructive - especially if those players being brought in on disproportionate salaries have as yet done nothing much in this league.

That's great news if it's true. I wouldn't want him to ruin the relationship with the fans.

What specific examples are you thinking of Wuzza? I reckon there's big variations in the salaries of players at virtually every top half Premiership side.

Is john just messing with here - we know he's a serious wind up merchant?
A lot of people have been saying he signed an extension beyond the one year that he is reported to have on his contract. In fact, KnotFM said he he had confirmed it himself that he had signed an extension.
I think he's just messing with us here.

I think the massive variations involve the 'world class' players though Paul and with the best will in the world we aren't ever going to have any of them. Instead we are as normal 'speculating' but now it is with players demanding far higher rewards . We have always been a side where the whole has been greater than the sum of the parts but this can easily reverse as it has done at clubs such as West Ham, QPR etc etc in the past. There's no easy answer but I'm hoping that MH and the chaps have had enough experience of the problem not to let it arise here.
