Presumably his contract won't be renewed beyond this season and he'll be off on a free this summer.
I know he's not everybody's favourite player, but he is one of our own who has contributed significantly to our rise during his time at the club. Surely that's worth ten minutes at the end of the Liverpool game so that he can get a proper send off?

The least he should get is a run out has he had a testamonial ?

I was worried he'd get a send-off every time he played to be honest.

No, sadly. We'll probably get a picture of him carrying his belongings out of Clayton Wood in a box in the Sentinel, at best.
The advised thing to do is imagine them leaving to music in your own head.
e.g.
Wilko - Ride of the Valkyries Palacios - Theme from Steptoe and Son

Is it not in his contract that he can only leave once he scores?

I think he should get a send-off personally. Good pro for us when we were coming up.

A small part of me does think it would be amusing to play Wilko for the full 90 minutes in the Liverpool game and have 25,000 Stokies turn it in to a "Goodbye and Thank you Wilko" day in such a way that it completely swamps the "Ta very much Stevie G, now piss off" tribute the Liverpool fans and the media would wish it to be. The poor old TV Editor won't know where to point the camera

I'd pay a lot of money for that on both scores.

Imagine this scenario
0-0
Wilko comes on for the final 10 minutes, inexplicably upfront. Palacios is also bought on. In the 94 minute WP plays a through ball to Wilko, Gerrard is the last defender, he tries to stop it, but slips, Wilko one on one with Mignolet and he absolutely f***ing hammers it, right in the top corner
We are on the pitch :-)

I really like Wilko. When he leaves Stoke he can hold his head up high. He has played for his local club at the highest level and against some of the worlds best players. When he wore the red and white stripes you could see the pride and determination in his face. He gave 110% every time he played, (whether or not that was good enough in some peoples eyes). He can only give it his best shot and he did. to Wilko!

Not every player is blessed with the ability of Bojan or Arnie.
Wilko always gave his best, and in my opinion made the very best of his ability. He has rarely let us down, and if he has, it was certainly not for lack of effort. He has given blood, sweat and tears for Stoke City Football Club, and represented us at the top level during a golden period in our history.
There's a direct line from Marsh, Smith, Bloor and Pejic to Wilko - local lads who've given their all for Stoke City.
If only he hadn't stumbled over the ball when he burst into the box 4 years ago today... it would have made a brilliant day perfect.
I doubt we'll see him on the pitch, but he deserves support and recognition from us supporters at every opportunity from now until the end of the season.

One of my favourite ever players. Not because he's blessed with any great technical ability but because he does exactly what it says on the tin - defend well, tackle like a steam train and take one for the team every now and again. I can't tell you how much it pisses me off when people write derogatory comments about him, as if he's been crap. He proved time and time again that he was the best right back at the club under Pulis. Maybe he did get a bit of preferential treatment from the supporters because he's local but so what? That's what it's all about. A local lad, playing for his local team in the top division of English football (probably over 100 times at a guess).
He proved time and time again that he had what it takes to be a Premier League defender. He might not have been blessed with great technical ability but he gave his all and, in many ways, that counts for a hell of lot more. Give me that over some half-arsed player with all the talent in the world.
I hope he gets some kind of send off. The strawberry blonde bastard.

Not quite a Stoke legend, but someone who fulfilled his dream of playing for his boyhood club, including in an FA Cup Final. A good lad, and someone I will miss when he leaves. Perhaps the end of an era in that sense.
