I honestly think he was one of our key players in the survival season. Teams came scared of how physical we were and Wilko was the toughest tackler of the lot. Until his sending off he had Ronaldo in his back pocket.
As a defensive full back he was massively underrated. Going forward was his weakness but I'll gladly excuse that.

Wilko was the best right back of the Pulis era. Our best runs of performances came with him and either Pennant or Lawrence on the right.

That pretty much sums up how I feel when I read your contributions to this board.

For the first time ever I agree with you. :-) As an out and out stopper he was the best we had. Bale, Ronaldo, Lennon, young, downing, all players playing well and with big reputations at the time, found it difficult to escape his pocket. His partnership with pennant also showed there was more to his game than he's often given credit for, particularly on this forum.

I don't often reply to the sheikh's post, but that tackle by Gardner on Wilko, shows just what a man Wilko is. Some of these cheats now would be rolling about for half an hour after that one. Wilko the man. Good luck to him,,and I hope if he is to leave that he gets at least one more appearance for us, and we could ALL give him the send off he truly deserves!

One of my favourite players. Why? Well, simply because he was a local lad who never gave less than everything to the cause. Add to that the FACT that he's the only player I've ever seen who played Christiano Ronaldo completely out of the game, so much so that Ronaldo had to resort to cheating to get Wilko sent off so he could do his stuff. I'd give him a full 90 minutes against Liverpool - as centre forward. OS.

What team/player was it against when he headed the ball off someone's foot (in our box) and busted his face open, and instantly got up even though he was pissing with blood? Got a feeling it might have been Tottenham.

Got a feeling it might have been Tottenham. His persistent hip injury is one of the most excruciating I've ever heard of. Its a shocker yet he consistently played through it and I bet he suffers for it later in life. No gripes with wilko from me. I liked him as a player and a bloke.

Is 2014 the year you started following Stoke?

Imagine the pandemonium if he scored a goal, the game would get called off with thousands of Stoke fans invading the pitch trying to grab the football and Wilko's boots as a souvenir.

No surprises. Hopefully he could at least make the bench last day. What did surprise me was Palacios was only 26 when we bought him. He should have been at the absolute peak of his powers. What a waste of a career.
