Brek failed miserably at Stoke. He's pretty successful for his national team. In 2015, he's scored against Chile and Switzerland. Shit players don't score international goals against those teams. We all know Shea is dreadful at defending right? He looks a hot mess at left back. Oddly, Switzerland targeted Shea with Shaqiri all night and the little guy didn't score or set up any goals. Shaqiri must be a shit player too if he goes at Brek for 90 minutes with no result. Chile was a B squad with all Chilean domestic club players. And USA got their ass handed to them that game. Your right Shea played amazing at LB vs Switzerland, I bet Stoke will recall him. Shaqiri's Inter Milan might even buy Shea off Stoke.

Brek wasn't given a chance really though was he. A few minutes at the end of a couple of games? Come on, let's not be hypocritical here. We can't tear Woy to pieces about hanging Shawcross out to dry when Brek was given a few minutes at the end of an Everton battering. I don't know about Brek's attitude. He did seem a bit of an arse and perhaps didn't get the whole culture of the game over here, but he was NEVER given a real crack of the whip, that's a fact. Hughes is a smart man and clearly Brek was good enough to warrant a chance under his management as well as Tone's, let's not forget that! What was his excuse at Barnsley and Birmingham? He's useless. Totally useless.

Brek was seen daily in training so MH knew how good (or bad) he was!

At the top level a player's psychological condition is crucial. I genuinely don't think there's much between the likes of Shea and player's like Ethers, Walters etc. The big factor is how they perform under pressure and/or when things are tough off the pitch. For whatever reason Shea never seemed to settle and his off pitch difficulties impacted his performance. Maybe he just wasn't cut out for playing overseas. Or could it be that despite their best efforts the lad still couldn't do what the coaches asked of him at any level?

Hello Stokies, I need an honest opinion. All I'm reading about since Shea's nice free kick is that he's a "freak of nature" with his speed, size and strength. I get laughed at when I say otherwise.
Did Shea ever show any reason why you would think he's a "freak of nature" or have any speed at all?

We saw very little of him on a competitive pitch at Stoke, but I think I can say fairly confidently that we saw nothing in the least bit remarkable in him.

Let's kick the dead horse one more time .... Pathetic windup attempt. Dead Horse? The fanboys are back out on the streets declaring Shea a "freak of nature" soccer god after his free kick. Fanboys are convinced Stoke just needed to put him at LB and he would shine. I honestly want to know if he looked fast or slow.

He was injured alot in his time here so it's hard to really gauge him for speed to be honest. Best of luck to him in MLS he looks a better fit there.

We see free kicks like that from genuinely top players on a regular basis . Have you heard the story about the monkey and the typewriter ?

I'm surprised this thread has reached two pages. Brek Shea was not good enough for English football. The fact he is doing ok in the USA speaks volumes about the quality of that league than it does ours. End of story. the funny thing is that he will probably score the winning goal for the USA in a world cup match that knocks England out. That says more about England's absolute shiteness at international level than anything else.
