In my nutshell....
Pulis was brilliant for SCFC Hughes is doing brilliantly at SCFC Some of the reaction at Blackburn went beyond 'raised expectations' and was pretty horrible to be honest. We then won an away game last week. Because of the likes of Murdoch and the obscene amount of money in one league, any sense or proportion is now only given a shelf-life of a week.

If I have read the posts of Stafford correctly he has acknowledged the job Hughes has done. Quite clearly through gritted teeth but he's made an effort. He has little option really.

Just exactly was different about the Blackburn reaction to the swathes of the woe is us, death of football bollocks that was trotted out under the old manager. It was entirely understable vent and went away as soon as it came.

The Premier League has created an element of Stoke support who can't handle disappointing results It's that simple That element of support mate are the ones that would be classed as the jonnie come lately, the ones that jumped on the potters band waggon as soon as we reached the dizzy heights of the premier league, the same ones that dusted off their shirts and scarves for the play offs and the autoglass finals, the same ones that come on here and spout bollocks on a weekly basis urging every one to get behind the team, the same bunch that like to tell you how long they have been going to watch Stoke, it must have been Stoke cooking the books when we were getting 12K each week because these lot were there all the time........... Plus... Just remember Wez, anyone under the age of 17 will have trouble remembering what a shit side looks like in a red and white top and any one under the age of 20 may just remember the crap that used to be dished up but will only just have suffered a few years of crap that they will be able to remember, success and popularity of the potters is all they really know so a big chunk of our support fall in to one of the two brackets. Us old bastards that have years of watching complete shit know what a taste of success is because we have tasted a little tiny bit of it.....if losing an FA cup final and getting knocked out of European competition counts as success, so we tend not to moan as some do........ Saying that the performance at Blackburn was fucking woeful but it was not Hughes fault that the players let him down like they did, cant stick up for them on that as they were proper shit that day

The thing I don't get is that the reaction to the defeat wasn't even that OTT. Maybe there was the odd maniac spouting nonsense but the reaction in the ground was preety sanguine, people vented for a day or so on here, people were a bit mopish at the missed opportunity for a day or so then it was all eyes on Villa. It's a complete fuss about nothing. I agree.

It appears to me that Mark Hughes has the unanimous support of Stoke fans and therefore the OP is misrepresenting the facts. Regarding the reaction after the Blackburn defeat, it was simply what football fans do everywhere in the world when their team loses, they overreact in the immediate hours and days after the match.
Football managers have highly precarious jobs, they are often as good as their last result. Fans will worship the manager as long as he gets them results, but turn on him when results falter. The people who turned on Tony Pulis were not just the new younger fans, they were in many cases people who had witnessed the 23 years of relative failure.
Managers tend to leave clubs in one of two ways, they either go onto bigger and better things or they are sacked for poor results, at some point in the future MH will fall into one of those categories.
It would be more healthy in future though if we could analyse the performance of Hughes without continual comparison to Tony Pulis.

The OP is both very right and very wrong. Right Mark Hughes is doing a hell of a job - wrong in that people who loved TP and the work he did for us are not having a pop anymore than anyone else. Thats just the usual devisive paranoid propoganda from the standard sources.. I think it's fair to say the criteria has suddenly changed in some cases Wuzza. Some people are suddenly a lot less tolerant of poor results and performances than they used to be. Spot on Bob!

The Blackburn result was a fucking disgrace, but apart from one really good run with TP our fucking FA Cup history over the last 40 years has been fucking shit , lets make no bones about it. Since I was born only 11 different teams have won the fucker, which includes Ipswich,Wigan,Coventry and Portsmouth. I'd rather not win it if it turns us into any of those poor fuckers! ;)
