Like Mark Halsey said to us last week the standard of refereeing is at an all time low and Friend is doing nothing to change this

Friend has always been a prize prick of a ref.
Moses' was harsh - but was the only one that was even in the ballpark of a yellow. Whelan's and Ireland's were laughable.
Football has become a bad joke when two nonsense incidents lke that can lead to a red.

No wonder he was reserve referee for this game.
Incompetent

And yet somehow the deluded Toon fuckers think they're hard done to today. Every time a Stoke player makes a tackle the crowd are baying for a foul and this cunt is falling for it.

And yet somehow the deluded Toon fuckers think they're hard done to today. It's a sad reflection of modern football that even the likes of Newcastle fans are screaming like girls for yellow cards at the merest hint of physical contact. Their grandfathers used to work down the pit until one minute before kick-off, then watch the game in sub zero conditions wearing nothing but string vests and flat caps and would hound to death any player who so much as grimaced if he had a leg amputated with a rusty saw and no anaesthetic.

This ref clearly works on the basis that if you fall over its a foul, he's one of the worst around.

One day it will come out that refs are biased. Halsey nearly said things but was told to shut up very quickly.

The only consistency was his inconsistency , for such a poor game he made it a hell of a lot worse !

I get that refs are human and they're going to make honest mistakes, but this wasn't an honest mistake. Friend saw what Colback did and made a conscious decision not to apply the laws of the game.
Whether he didn't want to upset the Newcastle fans, didn't want to upset Colback or didn't want the game to be spoiled is irrelevant. He deliberately misapplied the rules to the advantage of one team over another, and as such is a cheat.

To be that close and get the wrong decision like that means one of two things: He's either bent or totally inept. Now I don't for one second think he's the former which means he isn't up to it and therefore shouldn't be a professional referee.

Now I don't for one second think he's the former which means he isn't up to it and therefore shouldn't be a professional referee. There's a third category, in between bent and inept, that I think a lot of Premier League refs fall into. It's the Premier League Career Referee category, where every decision is made from the standpoint of how it affects their career. Friend knows as well as all of us that if you give the benefit of the doubt to the big club, on average, you're more likely to progress up the career ladder. He knows if he really upsets Newcastle and gets accused of causing them to lose at home to a smaller club, he'll not get to ref at St James's Park again. So Colback gets the benefit of the doubt whereas Moses, Whelan and Ireland didn't for far less serious offences. Did he give Charlie Adam the benefit of the doubt when he committed two bookable offences at home to Spurs a couple of years ago? Of course not, because giving harsh decisions against nasty old Stoke is good for your career, as Michael Oliver demonstrated with that premeditated penalty against Swansea.

There's a surprise. Newcastle boss Carver defends Kevin Friend saying 'he used common sense'.
I hope it happens on Wednesday, Palace get away with a red card & said player goes on to score, let's see his response then.
Wish managers would just be honest & say yes he should've been sent off, we got away with one. I'd have a lot more respect for them.

Never heard so much bollocks, he claims the referee used common sense because "Jack's not a nasty guy". Also it works both ways apparently as a couple of our player got away with things. What an utter thundercunt.

You're going to struggle to find a more bizarre analysis of what happened than that bullshit Carver came out with. If it's common sense not to card someone for being that late then I'm following the wrong sport.

In fairness Colback was quoted as saying he could've had no complaints if he'd been sent off and that sometimes you get a lucky break...

Pretty sure one of our players was in line with the goal having just tried to make a tackle so didn't matter if Ameobi was in Bego's eyeline. Friend was woeful today.
