Went to see it for the second time. Absolutely loved it first time but strangely I enjoyed it even more second time around to be honest. Noticed lots of things I missed first time round and it felt less rushed on second viewing. Did anyone else notice obi-wan and yoda's voices when Rey was having her mental force induced vision thing? Brilliant! Going to see it again as well, and this will be the first time in 30 years that I will have seen the same film twice at the cinema.

I really enjoyed it.
A love of Star Wars depends very much on which ones you grew up with. I was a kid when Phantom Menace came out and having never seen the originals, I absolutely love that film. Though attack of the clones was a bit average but really enjoyed Sith. I don't feel like I can really appreciate the originals and find it hard to get into them with the naff looking costumes and it's general dated look. Maybe if I'd have seen them first it might be a different story.

Do u mean the special editions that Lucas remastered with additional scenes & camera angles, especially the battle at yavin in The New Hope. Be worth trying to watch the original cuts to see how the films were truly made in the 70's & 80's. I can't watch Star Wars seriously anymore after watching Robot Chicken...

Is anyone else just a bit "meh" about the new SW film? I mean I love Star Wars as much as the next man/sci-fi geek, but there's just an element of "giving the fans what they want" when I've seen any trailers. You know - it's like "Hey - there's the Millenium Falcon! and Han! and Chewie! and, and ...X-wings and a baddie in a mask!, and Leia...all that stuff we love from the old movies, but with shiney new CGI/effects" etc. It's just a bit like a band that's not been together for about 20 years, re-forming for a big series of shows where they play their greatest hits for the money - then f*ck off. I'm going into it with an open mind, but low-ish expectations to be honest. Personally, the "spin-off" movies being talked about excite me more - especially the Han Solo back story - that could be interesting. So based on the above, I went in with low expectations and hoped for the best. And I wasn't disappointed. Way better than I had hoped and despite the endgame being a bit "familiar", there are plenty of surprises and unanswered questions - not to mention fantastic production values*. Well done JJ Abrams for not CGI-ing the f*ck out of it and committing to making the next two in the same way: actually building things and blowing them up! I even warmed to all the new characters once I'd re-adjusted to the new Star Wars universe. Worth seeing in 3D, but I want to see it for a second time in 2D just to concentrate and actually enjoy it more. All I can say is, Kylo Ren - Jeez - he has some issues! * Don't TIE-fighters look ace in "daylight"?!

For those who are interested, Daniel Craig is the stormtrooper who is at the receiving end of a Jedi mind trick.

I loved it.
it needs a standalone back story to bridge the gap

I thought he'd have had more screen time as well. Bloody loved the film though and Im looking forward to Rogue One....mainly for Felicity Jones!!!

Hmm, I thought it was ok but it didn't blow me away either. Some great visuals such as the Tie fighters in front of the hazy sun. Dissapointed in the lack of actual space action & shots.
As a fan of the imperial side, I felt it was great to see interiors reminiscent of the original Death Star.
The main problem is Kylo Ren unmasked. He just didn't match up to the masked appearance and the distorted voice. Should never have unmasked him! then again would have been even worse if left until the final film. I have the feeling he wont actually be the main villain, something darker will appear in the next movie.
Carrie Fisher was useless. General Hux and Supreme Leader Snoke were poor imitations of legendary charaters like Tarkin & Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine (my alltime fav character).
Overall though ok and could have been far worse but must do better next time.
Looking forward more to Rogue One and seeing Death Star 1 again.
And yes it is basically a remake of a New Hope. played it very safe

It was played safe, yes. Not just plot but some scenes we're almost shot for shot the same. Carrie Fisher was terrible.
However Harrison Ford was excellent, the new characters were good, the action scenes were great and the new bad guy (with and without the mask) hit the mark.
The overall look of the film was spot on and it all went by at the right pace.
9 out of 10 for me,more please.

I've always liked Star Wars but never reached fan boy status like my older brother.
Overall, I thought it was very entertaining but I had a few issues with it / observations while watching:
1) It seemed a bit too easy to take the shields of the ENTIRE PLANET down. They just asked one (shiny) storm trooper to do it and she kind of went "OK, if you insist, but you should know I'm going to get into a lot of trouble for this..." And when she did do that surely someone in the main control room would have said: "Oooh look, the shields have been taken down by someone in a little room in a random corridor, let me just pop them back on."
2) If you have a prisoner who you suspect can use the Force, don't leave it to one guy to guard her, even if it is Daniel Craig guarding her. Having said that it was quite a funny scene.
3) The main bad guy (whose name is a bit too similar to Stoke for my liking) looks like the love child of Gollum and Voldemort.
4) The other main bad guy (Kylo Ren) looks like Snape's grandson and clearly takes too much pride in looking after his hair given that he wears a big helmet all the time. He should have shown signs of "hat hair" when he took it off.
5) Did anyone else notice Rey was eating a small piece of Romanesco broccoli in the new cantina scene? No wonder she's in great shape. I would have thought she'd have wanted something a bit heartier after all she'd been through.

They've got a big task with the next two. No doubt in my mind that the enjoyment of The Force Awakens was the nostalgia trip - particularly Harrison Ford (and his interplay with his big hairy sidekick) and the Millenium Falcon. It deflected away from the totally derivative plot (which was largely a rehash of the original film). Next time up the nostalgia trick won't be as strong; Yoda ain't Solo and no one ever cared about Luke Skywalker - or his sister for that matter. Plus the gaping hole left by Harrison Ford. So they are going to have to build up the main characters much more, and they have to do a hell of a lot better with the story. A big ask. Be interesting to see if they are up to it.

I've read too much of this rubbish mate. It's a trilogy. The next two films will already be shaped. It's too important not too With Abrams it's in safe hands. Did an exceptional job with Star Trek , done the same with Star Wars

Hasn't worked with the latest Bond film - which was clearly intended as both a culmination of the previous Daniel Craig films and a launchpad for the next one (or few). I saw Spectre over Xmas and was distinctly unimpressed. Putting together an effective trilogy is really tough. I enjoyed this Star Wars film far more than any other (I really enjoyed it) but there is no doubt that the plot was pretty lame meaning the film drew heavily (and successfully) on nostalgia. That won't work in the follow up - so the script writers have a big step up to make. IMO - of course. Mind you, the force ain't strong in me so I'm bound to be a bit sceptical. You've got it - or rather a faith in Abrams to deliver. Fair enough. Time will tell!

He is a class act and will have some very interesting ideas and visions. Expect dark and twisted stuff.

watched this again the other night; bought it off Sky Box Office a week ahead of DVD release
Didn't look so good on a smaller screen
Kylo Ren so good unmasked and then the big reveal-so disappointing
Snoke; loved the voice but not so keen on the CG - poorest use of CG in a megabucks movie in ages
Just very average, without the big screen experience
This looks much better and more like Star Wars as I know it..

Watched it last night thought it was crap
Virtually No Luke , No R2 a woman hero with a PC boyfriend and a bad guy who looks like a DR Who extra that cries.
Haan looked like Strarsky and Hutch and Leia looked like her false teeth were falling out every time she spoke.
Bad acting, bad special effects. Thanks Disney for destroying a classic franchise.

Fisher was awlful - wooden acting and aging badly
Wouldn't have said the fx were poor although the falcon could not have looked anymore CG
The creatures in the pirate ship were awlful - like something from men in black
There is promise but must do better next time
people bash the prequels but Revenge Of The Sith is a million times better and The Force Awakens has nothing to compare with the Darth Maul battle in Phantom Menace
