New TV Spot. The Falcon bursting from that tree line. Yeah it's definitely my favourite shot out of everything we have seen so far. That place they're flying to seems to the location of one of the dogfights, going off other footage. Fucking excited now, to be honest don't wanna see anymore, so hopefully that's the only TV spot.

Just let it be as good as the original 2-that's all I ask!

Is anyone else just a bit "meh" about the new SW film?
I mean I love Star Wars as much as the next man/sci-fi geek, but there's just an element of "giving the fans what they want" when I've seen any trailers.
You know - it's like "Hey - there's the Millenium Falcon! and Han! and Chewie! and, and ...X-wings and a baddie in a mask!, and Leia...all that stuff we love from the old movies, but with shiney new CGI/effects" etc.
It's just a bit like a band that's not been together for about 20 years, re-forming for a big series of shows where they play their greatest hits for the money - then f*ck off.
I'm going into it with an open mind, but low-ish expectations to be honest. Personally, the "spin-off" movies being talked about excite me more - especially the Han Solo back story - that could be interesting.

Just let it be as good as the original 2-that's all I ask! After the sheer weight of disappointment of Phantom Menace and sheer disbelief at the turd that was Attack of the Clones, I'm trying not to get too excited. I cannot explain how much I hate Attack of the Clones. The whole prequels should be included as a deleted scene when a new box set is ever released. At least C3-PO got his memory erased.

I cannot explain how much I hate Attack of the Clones. The whole prequels should be included as a deleted scene when a new box set is ever released. At least C3-PO got his memory erased. I wasn't keen on AOTC but Phantom Menace was rescued for me by the scenes with Darth Maul & Sidious/Palpatine; I always liked the Dark side/Empire characters more. The Empire had the best unforms, ships, weapons etc. You couldn't beat the Death Star - would certainly sort out ISIL!
I'm glad the Empire are still around rebranded as The First Order - otherwise I wouldn't have been that interested. The Jedi made me feel sick with their do-gooder, sanctimonious attitude. They got what they deserved with Order 66
Thought Revenge Of The Sith was excellent; then again it revelled in all the dark stuff
I'm intrigued by the spinoffs; especially Rogue One which is about the rebel plot to steal the plans for Death Star Mark 1. They are 'resureccting' Peter Cushing by CG means to once again portray Grand Moff Tarkin. Theres rumours that Vader will return again, possibly in Hologram form. Not sure about Emperor Palpatine but it would be great to see the Sith Lords once again - possibly the only opportunity to do this as I can't see them in the new trilogy even in that 'force ghost' form. I would expect a Rogue One trailer pretty soon in the new year.
Anyway for the saddoes amongst us looking forward to this, here's a great vid splicing all the trailers/new footage together. A lot I hadn't seen and when viewed as a whole it really whets the appetite.

Kind of looking forward to seeing the main villain, Supreme Leader Snoke in this. Apparently he's head of the Empire (or First Order as its now called) and practices the dark side. Time will tell if he's anything as great as Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine. The guy with the red crossed lightsaber, Kylo Ren is sort of his underling ala Darth Vader. Apparently Vader although long dead is worshipped in some sort of way as a sort of cult thing. Sounds intriguing.

There's also rumours that Luke turns out to be a villain, having turned to the dark side.

Here's another trailer, I think this is fanmade but there's some great shots I haven't seen elsewhere, what particularly caught my eye was just how great the star destroyer looked and the shots on what very much resembles the interior of the Death Star. One of the biggest questions people asked when this was announced was would there be stormtroopers and we seem to have them by the thousand. Only 2 weeks, I expect the hype to really ramp up soon. See the supermarkets are full of merchandise; wonder if George Lucas kept any share of the rights?
Apparently the image of Luke at the very end is a fake.

The latest Bond film had a lot of "homage" in - and cam across as tired and un-imaginative as a result. hope you enjoy but my guess is you'll all be underwhelmed... not that I care - I fucking hate star wars - never managed to sit through a whole one even on TV. jar jar binks, possibly the most irritating character ever devised

You hate Star Wars yet you felt the need to post in a thread about STAR WARS. I was making a point about films advertised as a homage to their prequels being dull and formulaic by nature. If that's all right by you WOW what a sweeping generalisation, does that apply to all sequels, and it hasn’t been described as an homage to the prequels, JJ Abrams, the director, described it as dumping an over reliance on CGI and getting back to the live action and story driven plotline of ANH which was so successful and is widely considered the top 5 viewed film of all time.

Really?
I thought it was rubbish.
How this film has got such warm early reviews is beyond me. I've never seen such mass media collusion since the search for WMDS.
It was like a shit Star Wars tribute act playing at some dodgy bar in Longton. The script was clunky, the old characters didn't look like they wanted to be there.
The film didn't have an original bone in its body. More of remix of the first two films but with different characters. Absolutely gutted .
There is going to be a big backlash with this film, especially after the glowing reviews.
Sorry everyone . Not trying to be controversial , I hope everyone has a different experience than I did.

You raise some good points but at the end of the day, Abrams has had the task of satisfying millions of people's different visions and I think he did a pretty good job. Would be better to judge after the next film. Thought it was a bit clunky in the middle at times but the start and end were a real spectacle and the new cast were class.

I think that was the problem. He tried to satisfy too many people without coming up with an original film. So many plot holes. He could have done a whole film on why things were the way they were, and completely ignored it . The new bad guy was very undewelming. The leads do ok, but script is just appalling . They have nothing to work with. Just one action scene after another. The whole film feels so rushed. No time to digests events at the end.

After seeing this, I have to accept we're in a completely different era of film-making.
Compared to the originals, it seemed somewhat rushed in places, as though there is a fear these days of slowing the pace to allow an audience time to absorb and dwell in film moments.
Maybe film-makers are correct as people are getting dumber...
It's still a very good movie but the more new Star Wars stuff there is, the more I have to realise that the originals were sprinkled with magic dust from a different era of film-making and they will likely never be matched...
