When I was a sprog, I loved watching wingers like Mike Summerbee, Dave Thomas Peter Barnes George Best Harry Burrows. Later, along came Gazza and I could watch him all day, I don't think there will be another like him, not just his talent but his personality on the pitch was like a breadth of fresh air. Nowadays theres no finer sight than a Victor Moses bombing full pelt at defenders, fast flowing counter attacking footy is the way to go. Ryan Shawcross has to be my modern day favourite, as said above, a model pro.

I don't suppose you are still a child when you leave school, but when I used to bang on about my favorite player when I got to university, they used to say "Who the XXXX is Harry Burrows?"
Today I have most respect for Begovic in terms of his ability and how well spoken he is, certainly our classiest player.

Dodd...Doyle Chamberlain...Thomas Fuller...Shawcross How scary was Mike Doyle? Cold hard eyes of a killer. And better to have playing for you than against!!! Loved that game against West Ham when Doyle put us 1-0 up before Randall made sure in the second half, man, I'll never forget how ecstatic I felt walking home!!!

As a kid it was Denis Smith, head and shoulders above. Right now, and I really couldn't imagine myself saying this even a few weeks ago, it's Jon Walters, absolutely superb.

Loved that game against West Ham when Doyle put us 1-0 up before Randall made sure in the second half, man, I'll never forget how ecstatic I felt walking home!!! Was that in Division 2? I only went to 3 games that season (we were out of towners and I was only 9 in my defence) - Cambridge at home where we lost, West Ham at home and Notts County away. I've just had all my programmes back from my mum's and I'm looking at the West Ham one as I type. Jim McGroarty's profile is hilarious: Q: Which person in the world would you like to meet? A: No-one in particular That's up there with not being arsed to talk to Wayne Thomas.

In 1979 as a 7 year old kid I was a mascot at the Vic, and was just dumbstruck at standing in the tunnel next to Lee Chapman, whos posters were all over my sisters bedroom walls. Fucking hell I could hardly speak just staring at this man mountain with his loppy blond hair and the famous red and white stripes on.
As a hero on the terraces as a kid I just loved Georgie Berry, what a character, what a trier, and you couldn't help be drawn to this bloke with the big affro and massive heart. Fucking legend that bloke.
Apologise for three, but I also must give a mention for Chris Kamara. I know many Stoke players have done much more in their careers, but I will never forget how EVERY time we had a corner down the Boothen he would wind the crowd up with a clenched fist and fierce stare. We would all be roaring the corner in...cue the airhorn......great days as a kid.
Of the current squad then I cant look further than Ryan, what a role model for any young professional and any young Stoke City fan.
Of recent times then only Ric has constantly lifted me from my seat and made my heart skip a beat.
What a fucking great football club we are.

Can't remember to much about him now, but I was a young impressionable kid back then and I remember thinking he was ace, that was mainly down to these old blokes who used to sit behind me and my Dad continually moaning about Sammy Irvine, therefore, probably took the attention away from anyone else, lol!!! Used to think Richardson was ace too!!!

Remember when i first went to a stoke match in 79, Crooksy, think he used to wear number 7, also Inchy and Chapman. Also remember how everyone used to stamp their feet on the boards in the Butler street stand when chambo went on one of his mazey runs! Obviously Fuller, and from the early pre season games this time it was obvious that little Bojan ooozzzes class!

As a child of the early 80s, Stoke-wise it was Chambo Chambo Chambo - he was a revelation, unplayable, albeit for too short a time. Outside of Stoke it was Michel Platini - for the kids of today it may be hard to associate that sour-faced Frog at UEFA with a man of such sublime grace and exquisite touch in his playing days.
Now, for Stoke, it is hard to choose after my Fuller manlove - yes, Bego and Shawcross are great, but I long to see players who get you off your seat with their other-worldly skills. Arnie flashed brightly and briefly last season, and Bojan is a possible hero in the making. Re other teams, I can't get past Messi. I missed Pele at his peak and could never take to Maradona, but it has been a real pleasure to see him in action these past several seasons.

For Stoke, Steino. I felt he could score anytime the ball came to him; he really was magic. But my overall favourite player was the self proclaimed 'Guvner' Paul Ince. My favoured position was holding midfielder as a kid. I loved his dedication and spirit with the "guiness head" in Turin being an image that stands out
