I love the fact that footballers think everything should be in their favour with no come back. "I want to get my face on all sorts of shit so suckers can buy it to line my pockets but don't bother me with all that role model business"is pretty much how it goes. Whether they like it or not, rightly or wrongly, they are role models. People look up to them, people want to be them. This Evans character, in my opinion, comes from the very bottom of the cess pool. An odious individual who has trivialised his crime and expects things to be handed back to him on a plate. If he believes he is innocent then fine, get your head down and prove it then work your way back in. If I was a Blades fan i'd be livid. So you truly believe that ex criminals should not be allowed to work again?

So this guy is convicted of rape, tried in a court of law, found guilty and given a sentence. Now regardless of the history around the rape he was done and served his time as a punishment. What I don't get is the media jizzfest about how he should NEVER EVER play football again. Why not. He's done his time and been punished. What's the issue GD Since when has serving 2 1/2 years of a 5 year sentence 'serving his time'? Not only has he NOT served his time he is still in denial! The 19 year old girl has had to move area and change identity because one of his 'chums' released the name of the victim and her life was made hell. Yes, what fine upstanding young man who sets the bar at about 2mm from the gutter for all of our young men and boys. I hope the first person to tackle Evans is the girls father/brother.

Where have I said that? The guy obviously thinks he's been badly done to, thinks that rape is no big deal, expects things to go straight back to normal because he says he's not guilty and come out with some video message. Show a bit of contrition, show some decency towards the victim, get your head down and start working to clear your name if that's what you believe. What he has done has got Gordon Taylor to do his dirty work and lever him back into Sheffield United.

Perhaps if peoples' moral compass was pointing in a truer direction then Evans, his scumbag mates and the Girl wouldn't be in the position in the first place.

Unreal. Theres another thread on here about a bloke who chose not to wear a poppy. The vast majority ripped him apart. A CONVICTED RAPIST and theres massive support. If Evans had been a convicted pedo awaiting appeal would we all be saying he has a right to play again? I very much doubt it. In fact of course we wouldnt...no one would. However money would talk and you could bet he would win that appeal. Would he still be welcomed back? Again I doubt it. Yet imagine how a victim of rape is feeling, not just Evans victim...ALL VICTIMS. Then imagine Evans playing for your club. Its all wrong on so many levels.

It is allowed.... Only public pressure on sponsors and the club etc will keep him out of football Say he had committed murder (not manslaughter which is different) and had served his time - still be allowed to play but would the public allow it? To be fair, the public are just a bunch of thick cunts though aren't they? Doesn't our country and therefore taxpayers money get spent on getting ex criminals into work and here we have a public doing their level best to ensure that this bloke can't work. I hope a number of journalists start digging on some of these sanctimonious twats and see how angelic they are. Whether he was guilty or not, he's done his time otherwise what is the fucking point of our system. Might as well bin it right now if it can't be honoured. Evans has made the mistake of assuming that he can resume his life as though nothing had happened. As I said above - he has a team of lawyers employed by his millionaire father in law (to be?). If they get his case overturned then he is in the clear. If not then he remains a convicted and importantly, unrepentant, rapist Maybe the probation service could get him a job cleaning in a women's refuge plus a place in a pub football team - then he gets a job and he plays football - sorted?

your opinion isn't it? I strongly disagree with you and there are four posters on this thread who have posted utter shit about the case, trivialising what happened. This was a case that ended in a jury deciding that a rape was committed. I can totally understand the very difficult debate about when someone should be allowed to get on with their life after having served their punishment for a serious offence. There are no easy answers to that. It is pretty despicable though when you have some fucking knob, sitting behind his keyboard on this message board, judging the young lady who was the victim of the rape, making stupid comments like her behaviour 'does her no favours' when they have no fucking idea who she is and what happened. if you don't think that comments like that show worrying attitudes about violence against women then you are a bit of a thick twat yourself aren't you? You want us to just blindly believe her version of events to "spare her feelings"? Not happening. This is the 21st Century, and this is what equality looks like... Ched Evans as a basic human right is allowed to protest his innocence. The media are desperately trying to paint a picture for their puppets to fawn at. I listened to 5Live late last night and they talked about him in depth. I forget who was on but they put particular emphasis on the fact he's showed no remorse for what he has done and didn't apologize in his statement video. It's a shame there wasn't anyone in the studio with half a brain-cell to explain (slowly and in simple English, of course) that by apologizing, in any shape or form, Evans would effectively implicate himself. I actually believe that Evans is remorseful in respect of cheating on his girlfriend and those morons who believe she's only in it for the 'WAG' lifestyle are complete fucking idiots. She comes from a family of jewel dealers who turn over about 50 million a year. The £500k that Ched Evans is going to earn (before tax) over the next three years isn't even pocket money to her. After his appeal has been dealt with, he will then have the ability to come out and make a statement to the victim. He may decide to apologize for the abuse she's received by people on the Internet, or he may apologize for the fact she's had to go through this as well as him. What would be nice is a bit of media coverage without the standard anti-Evans bias. There's plenty of people who actually believe he was innocent. It's just a shame those voices aren't heard as the overwhelming majority in the media have to pander to feminists and ultra PC.

This is a pretty dumb statement. HM Prison decided Evans had served enough of his sentence. He doesn't get to make that decision. He's not in denial whatsoever, he's protesting his innocence. If you were falsely accused of robbing a shop, you wouldn't come out and apologize for being there in the first place. You would come out and protest your innocence. You have to set your emotions aside and look at it factually. If Evans believes he is innocent then we live in an age where he is perfectly entitled to clear his name if the evidence is there to prove it. Her name wasn't released by his chums. Her name was actually made famous by Sky News who made the massive mistake of broadcasting it and the abuse she's received from Sheffield United fans is absolutely NOTHING to do with Evans. He hasn't orchestrated it all. He may, after all this is over, come out and apologize to her with regards to the abuse she has received. He CANNOT do that at the moment as doing so would almost certainly compromise his appeal. Sorry Glen, but you're wrong mate.

For once, Merk is right. The rape of which he was convicted has a number of grey and disputed areas. Even so, at best he behaved like a scumbag that night. But he's done his time, can't show repentance without conceding his own guilt, and has the right to earn a living. He'll get dog's abuse wherever he goes and some clubs won't sign him so his future career has already been affected.
I don't recall the media getting this whipped up about Luke McCormick and Lee Hughes, who both did things far, far worse than Evans and got to play again. If we had proper sentences for what they did, they'd both be still in prison. McCormick killed two children driving drunk, speeding and uninsured. Where is the moral outrage at that cunt?

What we have now is the media, rather than covering stories, setting the agenda for what is acceptable in society. Sky and the BBC are now no different than the worst tabloids, and are the very same outfits that gave us the untouchable Jimmy Savile. Between them, they spawned possibly the most vile sexual predator of the last century, turned a blind eye because there would be so much egg on 'important' people's faces, and are now acting as judge and jury in a case that can be best defined as 'ambiguous'. Ordinary people will have their own opinions about Ched Evans and what they perceive to be right or wrong, but at the moment he IS a convicted rapist. Public perception is the problem here, because as some have pointed out, there are people who have done worse than him and have been accepted back into society without anywhere near this amount of hysteria. My own personal opinion is that he should have waited to see if he is allowed to appeal against his conviction and then decided what to do. At the moment he has placed a lot of people in very difficult circumstances and in positions where they cannot win. This might get a century yet, GD. Not bad for a has-been. OS.

What? The 20 or so Sheffield United fans singing his name (which they shouldn't)?
Or the 161,000 people fueled by the hysteria whipped up by the media who have signed the petition to stop him continuing earning a living as a footballer?
Remind me - which one is the mob?

Oh... by the way, turns out thousands of those signatures on the petition are actually fake, made up names with made up addresses. The media would like you to believe that 161k people have signed it, but actually the number is much less. It's a typical radical feminist trick.

Shouldn't we distinguish here between one type of rape whereby he either
1) Abducted an innocent female walking back from church before doing the dirty on her in some dark alleyway. 2) Date raped (drugged) a poor girl who happened to be in the wrong club at the wrong time. 3) Went 2s up with a drunken girl who had agreed to come back by cab to the hotel with him and who had earlier in the evening fallen over in a takeaway restaurant, forgotten her handbag in the cab, stolen food from random strangers in said takeaway, pissed in the street and didn't seem to make any objections whatsoever during the act.

We all know why this is a problem
One - there are plenty of fans prepared to turn a blind eye to almost anything if the player helps the team - witness Joey Barton et al
Likewise - the message goes out to young men on the terraces that anything goes and that Evan's (and his mates) behaviour is acceptable. It is not acceptable even if it is not deemed rape
Maybe the courts could offer Evans a change of identity (like his victim) - then he could F off and play in this new Indian league or down under - out of the way
Save us all a problem and save Evans and his lawyers wasting money on crass Youtube interviews and websites
