Just out of interest, how many of you folks are using a Mac? And why? I do most winters , the storms roll in across Liverpool bay and everything gets soaked if you don't .

I'm with Muff. I get soaked in those South Atlantic occluded fronts without a good mac to keep me dry and cosy.

The main reason for me is I can't be doing with windows, ugly, clunky and over complicated, holding their value better is a plus too.
I've got a mate of mine that hates that I'm into macs, he thinks I'm over paying for design and could get what I have much cheaper but tbh I did look around and it wouldn't have been worth the very small saving I'd have made.

Stability, good design, good service.
Yes you pay more than windows machines but you get a quality product, that lasts, holds it's value, works well and looks great. And if you're in the ecosystem it's even better. E.g icloud/iTunes Match etc

I recently went back to windows...and it is god-awful to navigate now. Add to that the fact that its slowed right down after three months and I'm back with a Mac now. Runs so much quicker, and is just a better piece of kit.

E.g icloud/iTunes Match etc Isn't the only reason it holds it value more down to the fact that the collective group that buy macs in the first place tend not to have a clue what the true value is in the first place? The hardware you can use is exactly the same, the operating systems aren't a million miles apart in terms of cost. The premium is paid for the case. A fairly standard case which offers no benefits whatsoever. My interests lie in gaming, so the Mac OS will never be what I'm after. Build it yourself - you can do that with a Mac operating system as well, you can just get a fairly decent standard case for £40-£50 (with the space for additional fans and cooling etc) and save a decent wedge. If you're really desperate, print out a picture of an apple and stick it on the side.

A distro by a few groups such as iAtkos who have hacked ISO's that allow Mac to be installed on retail and custom build PC's. You can make a decent £400 PC that runs Mac perfectly.

Im guessing its more to do with the amount of people making them, theres hundreds (might be a slight exaggeration ) of companies, good and bad, making windows based pc's where as, obviously, only one making an iOS version, so the market isn't flooded.

I work on a Mac and PC cockpit. Where I switch from one to the other. Both specifications are similar but prices are around £1000 apart. I have to reboot the Macs once a week at the most when working on complex stuff, the pcs once every other day. Large images open fine on the macs just take a bit longer, the PCs tend to hang then hang some more before having to be rebooted out of the window into the car park.

Google has loads of tutorials for this, all the way up to OS X 10.9.

I tend to use iPads more than anything else for work and I have an iPhone too , but there are other devices dotted around the place too. I don't like windows 8 and that's how I ended up with the IPad and IPhone stuff. i also end up losing stuff cus I don't know where I put it and then end up buying even more....Crazy. Technology is something I buy because I have to , not by choice and is something that doesn't really interest me though.

I've always used Windows. I've had a go at using a mac a couple of times and i can't really see why everyone loves them so much. I liked Apple as a company before they became a marketing lead organisation. There are millions of people that are suckered into believing that their products are invariably better than the competition. Apple products look great and do what their owners want them to do (or what their owners think they should do). Outside of the "creative" world, I cannot see any justification for why Macs (or iPhones etc) are priced as high as they are. Granted, good design and quality materials should carry a premium, but beyond that, they attract people that "aspire" to better things, and it's the reason why people by the BMW X6 - it does not do anything better than any other vehicle except displaying to the world that the owner can afford a more compromised version of an already unnecessary car.

Yes ,...you're right. My next door neighbour bought one for several zillion pounds and I bought a van from the auctions for £2400 . I'm not sure what they cost but he only kept it three years then sold it and due to depreciation lost about £12000 on it.... Was I impressed....was I fuck .

Don't get me started on Macs. I had to use one today, what a load of shit. the layout is ridiculous, as is the mouse and, worse of all, there a nightmare to navigate around. Windows all the way for me, far cheaper, better layout, better programmes and just less of a ballache to use.
