No players but Keith Humphreys bought me and my mates several pints in some remote pub in the Peak District after the Area Semi-Final at Chesterfield in the AWS, the year we beat Bristol City. Keith was totally twatted, and not a popular man with supporters at the time. However he told us some juicy stories, much to the annoyance of son of Coates, about players and managers alike, and we all went away in no doubt that despite whatever else he was a massive Stoke fan. A surreal evening after getting pisswet at Saltergate. You can't leave it at that mate! What are the juicy stories?

A surreal evening after getting pisswet at Saltergate. I'll have this one too, as I was there. Great night. I can't remember many of the stories as I was pissed...apart from one or two that would be libelous! ??? Player wise, the late Denis Herod bought me a pint once. He was a friend of my Granddad's from way back, and we bumped into him on the concourse before a game (years ago). Lovely fella- I was amazed how small he looked though, considering he used to be a keeper. Mind you, he had probably shrunk a bit over the years. I used to see Dean Crowe now and again when out on the piss (friend of a friend). Don't think he ever bought me a pint though, as he was probably earning less money than I was at the time. (which really wasn't a lot!) I worked with Noel Blake for a brief period, but didn't see him out of work, so no pints changed hands. As scary as he looks he's a really nice fella. Think that's it.

Bought Peter Horkstra and Lewis Neal a drink in The Tube( not sure what it's called nowadays) in Newcastle. I was hammered and just sang the Peter Hoesktra song at him!
Also spent many an afternoon with Jackie Marsh in Corals in Fenton and Stoke (must be over 10 years ago now) when I used to spend my evenings and weekends in there. He's a really nice guy.
Not a Stoke player but manage Robin Van Der Laan's 9 year son so have many a chat with him

Had a few good nights out with john halls and his mate, cracking bunch of lads. That lad could have been an exceptional player but unfortunatly he loved the beer and stronger stuff a bit more hence him being thrown out the club

The two I remember were a left back who had to be "let go" due to an unhealthy addiction to an illegal substance and a former manager who spent more time shagging the female staff than concentrating on training and picking the team - results suggested this was the case. There were others but I don't remember. The thing about the evening was we had been slagging off the board big time to the landlord, a Man City fan, before Humpo walked in. He was all like "A up Stokies let me get your ale in". Shamelessly we accepted and let him continue for several hours. That landlord must have thought we were right hypocritical twats. He was right.

I played in goal against the Stoke team that went on to win The League Cup at training.
Well, me and my mates and a few others who'd gone along during the school holiday.
Ace memories including; having my photo with new signing Jimmy Greenhoff, seeing John Farmer coming back from goalie training nearly completely brown, looking after Banks' track suit top while he played centre forward miles away from where I'd positioned myself behind his goal, the players putting us lads in goal and firing shots at us - Money, Ritchie, Banks, Pej, Smith, Bloor, and Greenhoff among others. I might have even 'saved' a couple.
Have a feeling I might have burbled about this elsewhere.

I met up with the Germinal Beerschot fans who came over to watch Carl Hoefkens, and he met us in some bar or other in Hanley and was getting the shots in. Came across as a really nice guy, and the Belgians who came over were absolutely bonkers! Great night. Attachment DeletedNot quite the same, but I held John Butler's can of Tango on the open day at the Victoria Ground when I was 6 or 7. I felt so honored to hold it for 10 seconds whilst he was signing autographs.

Lou Macari gave me a bottle beer from his fridge in his office after a 2-1 win v Bury at the post match press conference to a smattering of regional reporters. He even opened it for me.
Everyone else demurred. I thought, 'The Stoke manager's offering me a beer. In his office. Me. Lou Macari of Man U and Scotland.'
I was there with a film crew for a documentary about oatcakes that never did get commissioned.
I let them get on with all the match-related stuff and then asked if oatcakes were part of the players' diet being as I'd been told by the owner that the players frequented the nearest oatcake shop after training.
"I want the names of those players," said Lou with a big smile.

Dave Bamber. It was after he had left Stoke and he was playing for Blackpool. Few of us on the piss in Blackpool (maybe a stag do?) and i think Blackpool players were celebrating something. Anyroad up, i told him i was a a Stokie, we had a natter, and when i went to get another pint the barman told me that "that big bloke got them in".
Lee Sandford. Also had all my ale paid for when i got married. Had the reception in an exec box at the Vic, and after the match (Brighton) in the lounge/bar. Sandford, who was knobbing Maureen Fowler at the time, wanted to swap my missus for his. In retrospect, i wish i had.

Years ago mark chamberlain ran a youth club in smallthorne which I attended just because it was him. We used to just play 5 a side considering we were just young kids he would fire shits at us at a tremendous pace then brought us all mcdonalds this happend every week for around a year or so. He brought alex oxlade with him once when he was younger ( not that he's old now) but he wasn't allowed to play football ( must be something do with this brittle bone disease all arsenal players have) but he was a sound kid. Also hang around with brendon daniels who is 20 now but broke through crewes academy while we were on the piss and curry he would have water and a salad. He used to have allot do with fuller and cort at one point.
