Good riddance to you as a Stoke "supporter". What is it with some of our "fans"? If a player does his best over a number of years and has never shown anything but loyalty to the club, why would a fan want to slag him off when he leaves? OK, his best may not be good enough and he needs to move on for the sake of his career (and for the sake of our wage bill) - but why is that a reason to abuse him? Is this a generation thing - or is it simply a vocal minority with no age bias? For me it's not just football related. It is a common feature of social media. Normal human decency can be bypassed, because you can spout an opinion with rarely any comeback. It is easy to hit a few keys on a keyboard, a different kettle of fish saying it face to face to Shotts or his family and friends. Footballers are very well paid at the top level, and that, in some peoples minds make them fair game for any sort of abuse. To me he seems a decent lad, who has always tried his best, but would be better suited to a lower level.

Don't see why we wouldn't let him go on loan unless there's genuine interest in a permanent deal from elsewhere. Seems short-sighted.

Depends on the wage situation, if the recipient club pays them OK, if we have to contribute then still on our wage bill. I would expect a loan situation nearer the end of the window if we haven't sold. Good luck to him whoever he chooses.

Shotton has played just about everywhere on the pitch bar goalkeeper. He's played at full back, on the wing, at CH and in midfield. He even played up front for Altringham. I honestly think the lad has suffered, in terms of progress, from never really having a settled role. There's a half decent footballer in there somewhere. Is it better to play out of position or not at all? Personally I think it's the former. He's never been good enough and needs shifting on.

Can't see him getting in their team as they have Cyrus Christie who is a quality RB. Cyrus Christie? I'm sure he's in my Motown collection somehwere....

Oh I totally agree Beardy with your comments ref playing in a variety of positions or not playing at all. I was just making the point that he might well have made a pretty reasonable full back (his best position IMO) had he played there consistently and grown with experience. He's been shunted around the pitch from a very young age and I doubt that's helped him career wise. There's a good reason why people talk about "Jack of all trades, master of none". I wish him well.

Last year of his deal, so looks like we're holding out desperately to get a decent fee for him.
If we can't get a nibble for £500k+, you'd think we'd take Derby's offer up.
I thought he'd do well at C'ship level - but was surprised at how little of an impression he made at Wigan.

I was surprised too but in fairness Coyle is an absolute tool and Shotton doesn't seem like someone who'd fit the way Roslers teams play

I believe the new manager decided to send the loan players back to their clubs especially concerning Shotton as a fee had been agreed. threeamigoswigan.com/2014/05/10/have-the-loan-players-let-latics-down/

Disagree, he showed in his last stint at right back for us that he was good enough, as a less roaming right back anyway, he showed that he had improved massively, its just a shame, for him, that the club has improved quicker.

Loan or permanent?
I suppose they amount to the same thing with it being the last year of his deal.
Frustrating that we supposedly had a £2m fee agreed with Wigan under Coyle - and he could now depart for, at best, peanuts.

I'm not sure mate, just said on SSN but I'm pretty sure we had rejected an offer previously from Derby because they wanted a loan and we only wanted permanent so I assume it would be a permanent move!

I'll be amazed if we get a million for him, and over the moon if we do! I know he's a local lad and he always tried his best but he clearly isn't good enough for the Premier League. I'm amazed to see Derby fans thinking that this is a good signing for them... I don't think he's good enough to get in their team!!
