Nope, do you think that team would have scored had we played another 90? I dont.... You don't change half the team on the back of one poor performance in your first game of the bastard season. Literally the only change I'd make for next weekend is Moses or PO on the right.

No. I'm not going to write off the new striker we've spent a year chasing on the basis of one performance in which he didn't even play particularly badly.

I guess it would help if he and Bojan were not swapping positions constantly. For most of the game yesterday, we had no focal point, just numerous people on each wing.

Im sorry but we seemed to finish the end of last season really well, to many changes were made yesterday. Why change a winning side, bar maybe bringing one in, not changing the whole shape and squad. Surely it should be there places to lose?

Key to our formation is the number 10 and Ireland was completely non-existent yesterday, a complete passenger. Bring Adam back in there or move Bojan central and the service should be improved. I like to think I am not one to overreact, but yesterday'e performance came completely out of the blue. I was surprised by the tactics and the formation. Hopefully a rejig next week should sort it out.

I'd start with the same side. At least give it 45 to see how it pans out.
Hull won't sit back like Villa did yesterday and we'll be able to hit them on the counter. If that's not working then crouch on to lead the line and Odem for Bojan if we need to go direct.
One things for sure, Hughes needs to get the midfield working harder.

Why change a winning side, bar maybe bringing one in, not changing the whole shape and squad. Surely it should be there places to lose? The poorest player on the pitch for Stoke yesterday was Stephen Ireland who contributed the square root of fuck all. Note how Villa gave him an early clattering and that after that he didn't want to know. If the was an error of judgement yesterday it was that Ireland and Bojan can play together - they can't For my money Diouf did nothing wrong whatsoever and to make him the scapegoat is totally and utterly wrong and unfair.

Poor yesterday but we still have a very good squad
Main problems yesterday Wilson and Ryan messing about too much.
Whelan and Nzonzi didn't create anything too many backwards passes.
Bojan, Ireland and diouf aren't strong enough to all play.
I'd go with
.............................Bego...........................
Bardsley........Ryan........Huth.............Eric
.............Sidwell.................NZonzi............
Moses..................Bojan....................Arno
.............................Diouf............................

I'd also be tempted to bring in Sidwell for Whelan, see how that transpires.

I'm staggered that people want to drop Whelan after one poor game to be honest, and for a player not as suited to that role as him.

I think that MH will make one or two changes both in the starting 11 and on the bench. - I agree that wholesale changes would be a mistake
He did mention a policy of rotation (to a degree) and selecting players depending on the opposition.
This may be our squad for the season now, so careful consideration needs to be as to who we retain.
Yesterday showed the importance of Crouch and Adam imo
At this moment in time, the only transfers out that I would like to see include, Shotton, Jerome, Palacios, Shea possibly Wilkinson
Butland needs a carefully chosen loan opportunity, I hope that he is in our future plans.

imo we need to get Huth back in the team with Shawcross, Wilson should of put that ball straight out of play yesterday when they scored. We are conceeding goals far too easily.

If I were to make a change it would be Moses for Bojan but even then I would need to see how things went in training. There are things that need to be sorted and I MH knows this, but I don't think wholesale changes in personnel is the answer just how we execute the plan. I'd give it 2 to 3 weeks before chopping and changing. Must admit I'd still like Muniesa next to Ryan at the earliest possible time.

What is the matter with our supporters. How lften, exactly, do three debutants - two from abroad - all play phenomenally? Give them time, things have to gel and come together.
My suspicion is that some people expected us to be top on goal difference today and are having a girly strop because - shock, horror - Premier League teams aren't pushovers.

Hughes would have learned a lot from that game. I think most people on here were happy with the starting eleven at 3.00pm yesterday. Hughes will work with the players throughout the week and I don't think the starting 11 will be too different but we'll see a different performance next week.

Totally agree although I've said in a couple of threads Id be tempted to tinker if I was Hughes and drop Arnie and Ireland. Hull wont sit back (nor will their fans let them) and our flair players should get more joy. People like Shawcross wont be tempted to lump it forward like yesterday and we should look less disjointed all over the pitch.

The midfield was one of our strongest areas during our good run of form last season. Are we really desperate to start dicking about with it on the basis of one - ONE - poor showing?

Was thinking Ireland enabling Bojan to play in a more central role with Moses on the right. Would be a shame to see either of the new guys left out and despite the criticism I thought Arnie was our main threat going forward.
