Ever since Palacios came on. It's like playing with 10 men Not just Pally though, Adam and Crouch kill any movement going forward. Re Adam If it's today you are on about fair enough but in general he drives us forward

I think Arnautovic, Diouf and Bojan will all play and interchange through the game They didn't today though did they? Diouf played on the right , Arnie on the left and Bojan played as a false number 9. I can definitely see all three starting again but they all knew what role they had to perform this evening. They did but i think Diouf will be more effective through the middle

Adam is a liability, he should just leave tackling to everyone else

Re Adam If it's today you are on about fair enough but in general he drives us forward I know you're a fan wezza but I honestly think Hughes will sacrifice him and he'll be on his way. Maasively influencial at home but by enlarge anonymous away from home. The way Hughes wants us playing Ireland will be more valuable if he stays fit...

Oh well not a bad performance in all fairness.
Thought Ireland had a good game along with Muniesa when he came on, Shawcross solid atthe back AND I thought Texeira had a solid half
Not bad all round

Promising but we need to sort the forwards out, only really looked threatening on the break.

Enjoyed the first 60 minutes plenty of positives going forward.
Think Whelan will lose his place to Sidwell when the season starts.
Man of match Ireland followed by Bojan and Bego.

Long shot I know, but any idea if I'll be able to watch the first half anywhere?
Didn't get in until half time.

I'm 100% sure that Diouf was played down the right because Wingie (or MFW) isn't there and Hughes wanted to see how Bojan can cope through the middle.
I would have said before the game that it'll be Diouf and Boj down the centre, but Ireland put in a great claim for a starting place with his performance today.
All in all, I thought we were mostly excellent and it was only our lack of fitness (and certain sub players) that cost us a result.
A lot to look forward to this year.

More positives than negatives. Sidwell would come on instead of Palacios you would hope. Another pacey forward aka. Assaidi to add something different up front i think we're all good.
Edit. Forgot about Odemwingie for the right mid spot. d'oh

Only saw the second half and we clearly got weaker with the more subs that we made. Great goal from Bojan and Schalke are clearly top quality opposition who perhaps have got more strength in depth than we have. I thought we did ok until the last 20 when we started to hoof it more. a fair bit to feel positive about with our new signings though.

Visibly tired towards the end even with the substitutions! It was nice to see some of the good points but still worries defensively. If we can get our best players on the pitch we may just score more than we concede. We have a new chant to start every time we get a ball back from an opposition corner. BREAK! BREAK!

I think fitness isn't there yet. Hopefully getting better though. Some good performances though.
We could have nicked it. As it is, they got a decent winner but defensively was sloppy.

Impressed with parts of that game. I think we're starting to click in certain places. We're definitely missing some kind of dynamic wide right - hopefully Wingie will carry on from where he left off.
I genuinely think we need a rock solid ball winner in midfield, to complement the counter attacking nature of the side. That type of player is often undervalued and overlooked but I reckon it would add another dimension to our side.
Whelan is more of a water carrier in general and N'Zonzi just cannot do that role to save his life. Their strengths both lie elsewhere.

Adam would have done much better in the hole if he had Diouf in front of him. Crouch and Adam never worked and never will.

All in all we looked sharper. It would be nice to see us win but getting a good work out, getting sharper, fitter and seeing what works and doesn't work is the priority.
I think we can get a rough idea where we need to improve and a good idea what side we will be looking to start the season with. A few more friendlies to go to try some things and then the season will be upon us.
I know we will see the usual moaning about another loss but you have to see the bigger picture and the bigger picture shows to me that we are further on at this stage than we were last year, i can also see that Hughes has some difficult but welcomed choices.
-We have two solid keepers who will both be wanting starts -We have a solid experienced right back and left back with Bards and Pieters. We also have cover with Wilson and Cameron, also a possible starter and a bit more creative full back in Muni. -Centre halves we have the choice to make between Shawcross, Huth, Wilson and then we can have cover with Tex and Cameron.
Be interesting to see what happens with the likes of Sidwell, he gets you goals, fit and works his nuts off, will he be a starter? Then you have the Bojan, Odemwingie, Ireland, Arnie, Diouf and maybe Assaidi or another saga. A nice headache to have.
For me i can see Adam going this window, Crouch when his contract is up.
Basically i'm pretty happy with where we are.

He's an influencial player at The Brit and probably our most composed player in front of goal, but I still think he can be a liability away from home. Could be wrong but with the wages he's on I think he might be the sacrificial lamb, we'll see I guess.....

My thoughts I reckon Hughes has got his work cut out deciding on a formation and the personnel to suit.He has a lot of players to choose from.
It's almost the complete opposite of a Pulis team.Cage ? Hughes has taken the cage and had it crushed.
Crouch doesn't fit the system.
Defensive midfield is going to be a critical position with the way we set up.

Thought Tex looked composed and played the ball well. Wouldn't like to rely on Butland for a whole season if Bego went.
