I think this will be the best friendly so far. Schalke were 3rd in the Bundesliga last season and have won 4 out of 4 of their friendlys.

And it's a week before their season kicks off, they'll be beyond ready. No shame in losing today.

We really need to take it up a gear here from anything we have produced so far. Clean sheet, a goal from Diouf, proof positive of Bojan's sublime skills, the seamless integration of Sidwell and Bardsley in to the side, Austrian Arnie to put one over his German 'friends', a step shift in the intensity of it all. Not asking for much

Just a fitness exercise again. Don't get too excited whatever the result and always bear in mind the Germans are a few games ahead of us in respect of fitness

So it will be interesting to see what they see as the premier league starting XI.

I know it's a friendly and all that but if we don't utilise our best XI for the majority of the game we'll be torn a new one.
Hopefully, we've seen the last of Shotton...

Sidwell did actually weigh in with a few goals for Fulham, hopefully with sparky guiding him he can produce even better form for us. Sparky must've seen something in him during his management days down there to make him want him to come to Stoke after all.

I think Sidwell is a good player in all truth and he seems to have kept himself fit despite being the wrong side of 30, he should do very well. Unlike that bloke I keep mistaking him for!

I'll say it again though, I hope Hughes starts Shea and Arnie as the wingers for the first 45. If not then Arnie and Bojan with Ireland CAM. Shotton isn't working, not even in pre season.

Thanks for posting. This may sound a bit sad but I really enjoyed watching that, You almost learn more about how good players are by watching them in these situations when they have a little more time than you do in the hurly burly of match day. It's the same with squash which is the game I know best. Watch 2 world class players knocking up and you just think "wow - that ball is being struck like it should be"

Spinksy doesn't actually tell us anything there at all does he? Is he out there watching them train? If he is, how are they setting up?
