What is Sparky going to do with him, I know lots say he has promise, could be a good player etc etc, but what I saw (only briefly as the stream kept disappearing) in the game against Munich was that he proved himself to but utter shite, in passing, possession awareness, basically every facet of the game. Some will say that everyone has an off game but come on REALLY! has Shotts ever had a good game, and how can Sparky justify his inclusion in the Squad. Discuss, show working out in the Margin etc ........

I don't think there are lots who say he has promise.
I'll be honest...I don't think anyone says he has promise.

I'm sure he won't be anywhere near the 18 once the real stuff starts.
But as a fit pro who keeps his head down, suppose you've got to involve him - as he did with Ness and Shea?
Which makes it more confusing why Jerome has been singled out.
Not sure how easy it'll be to move Shotton on though. He's got another year left on the type of money he'll never see again.

In the season before last, he was our best player from January onwards when played at right back. He's shite with the ball though, and if we don't manage to find a buyer he (quite rightly) won't get a look in, in Hughes' first 11.

He's a good right back.
Fuck knows why we're playing him on the right wing even in friendlies though.

If he was at another club would stoke sign him? That's all you need to ask

I'm just surprised the Crystal Palace manager is not after him
He played him in every position known to man and ignoring players who were more suited to the positions Shotton was playing in at his last club
In short I feel sorry for Shotton as many fans judgement on him was clouded by the above although in reality he's not going to figure
Hughes is just giving the whole squad game time

I have it on very good authority that he is on £20,000 a week, very lucky man far too much money for an average Championship fullback, as for a winger 1st division bottom half at best.

There's been a lot posted on here saying , with the new signings, you can't judge them, it's only a practice game. But it seems perfectly Ok to slag Shotton and Wilkinson off. Bojan etc. have less excuse in that their proclaimed superior skill should make up for their lack of fitness, whereas Shotton and Wilkinson only have physicality and should be more affected by lack of fitness.

Is he really a good right back though. Yes. Interesting that Coyle played him at centre-half when he loaned him for Wigan though. *insert Owen Coyle joke here* And hadn't he agreed to pay £2m for him before he got the chop. Typical.

As is often the case the player is nowhere near as bad as the extremist message board views would have you believe. Playing in his correct position at the back the lad has a chance. I doubt it will be with us anymore but I hope he gets a decent move when the time comes and an opportunity to prove himself.

He is not a bad defender, but he is an awful ball player! In many ways he is a typical Championship defender. £1-2M and he should be off!

He's piss poor wherever he's been played. He's 25 now, he's not gonna get better. Pay him off and ship him out to lower Championship/League One side where he belongs.

Yeah it is fine to slag Shotton off as he knows the team, how they play etc Bojan and the other new signings have had about minutes game time . In the words of Forest Gump ''Shite is as Shite does''... Shots is out of his depth full stop.

He's absolutely awful.
He wouldn't get in a lot of Championship sides, never mind Premiership.

The strangest thing re Shotton is the fact he's started both pre season games. Presumably Hughes is trying to get the balance right for a potential starting xi and views Shotton as the closest we've got to Odemwingie in the latters absence. I suppose it's a toss up between Shotton and Walters- Not the greatest options. It just highlights our need for a new right winger particularly given he sees Bojan in a central role at this stage.

Bojan etc. have less excuse in that their proclaimed superior skill should make up for their lack of fitness, whereas Shotton and Wilkinson only have physicality and should be more affected by lack of fitness. Ryan Shotton has made 70 competitive first team appearances for Stoke City. He has been at the club since 2005. People have every right to express their views about his performances, whether they be negative or positive views as they have seen him play for Stoke City numerous times. Andy Wilkinson has made 192 competitive first team appearances for Stoke City. He has been at the club since 1998. People have every right to express their views about his performances, whether they be negative or positive views as they have seen him play for Stoke City numerous times. Bojan has made 0 competitive first team appearances for Stoke City. He has been at the club since Tuesday. Therefore do you not feel that it's ludicrous to even contemplate judging him yet? Evidently not as i'm here having to point out the obvious to an idiot such as yourself. Your lines about skill and fitness are as bollocks as the rest of your piss poor post.

Pulis made him a hate figure after using him as a pawn in his game against the growing discontent regarding the right wing position.
Sadly, it exposed his lack of ability beyond that we already knew in his natural position.
An honest lad but way out of his depth now...
