There's been a lot posted on here saying , with the new signings, you can't judge them, it's only a practice game. But it seems perfectly Ok to slag Shotton and Wilkinson off. Bojan etc. have less excuse in that their proclaimed superior skill should make up for their lack of fitness, whereas Shotton and Wilkinson only have physicality and should be more affected by lack of fitness. Ryan Shotton has made 70 competitive first team appearances for Stoke City. He has been at the club since 2005. People have every right to express their views about his performances, whether they be negative or positive views as they have seen him play for Stoke City numerous times. Andy Wilkinson has made 192 competitive first team appearances for Stoke City. He has been at the club since 1998. People have every right to express their views about his performances, whether they be negative or positive views as they have seen him play for Stoke City numerous times. Bojan has made 0 competitive first team appearances for Stoke City. He has been at the club since Tuesday. Therefore do you not feel that it's ludicrous to even contemplate judging him yet? Evidently not as i'm here having to point out the obvious to an idiot such as yourself. Your lines about skill and fitness are as bollocks as the rest of your piss poor post. Hancock's looking for another fight....

Pulis made him a hate figure after using him as a pawn in his game against the growing discontent regarding the right wing position. Sadly, it exposed his lack of ability beyond that we already knew in his natural position. An honest lad but way out of his depth now... Absolutely ruts

Hancock's looking for another fight.... How dare you! I think you're suffering from Stoke withdrawal....you always seemed a mild mannered bloke but recently you're like Vinnie Jones on steroids. Very entertaining though!

Some of the charges levelled at TP beggar belief. Its not enough to criticise his selections....ohhhh nooooo!!! Tony Pulis selected players to make points rather than win them eh? Bollocks.

I think i'd best stop posting. When i came back on this board i thought "This time, i won't allow myself to get wound up by stupid stuff and i won't get into arguments or owt" and to be fair i've done quite well for a while at biting my lip (or fingers) but i'm slipping, i'm slipping! I'd best sign out.

A good quality championship defender but not Premiere League. Wish it was otherwise but it isn't. +1

I think there were a number of occasions when Pulis locked horns with supporters ('herberts') over their audacity to question his judgment. It became personal and he definitely compromised the team's potential on occasion to prove a point.
Hoefkens, Diao, Griffin, Shotton, Walters have all been omitted/included to this end.
Listen, I'm extremely grateful to TP for providing the platform upon which we're building now but let's not pretend he didn't have some glaring character flaws which impacted on many levels and, ultimately, cost him his job...

Maybe Mark and the team found TP's extensive dossier where he said Shotton could play on the right wing in a Gareth Bale type conversion.

He'd be a very good signing for a top half championship side I think. He's not good enough for us now though.

I'm sure he won't be anywhere near the 18 once the real stuff starts. But as a fit pro who keeps his head down, suppose you've got to involve him - as he did with Ness and Shea? Which makes it more confusing why Jerome has been singled out. Not sure how easy it'll be to move Shotton on though. He's got another year left on the type of money he'll never see again. I have it on very good authority that he is on £20,000 a week, very lucky man far too much money for an average Championship fullback, as for a winger 1st division bottom half at best. We should get rid and add that to what we are offering Ossie!

Obviously we should sell him. But I don't see anyone putting a bid in for him, and we have too many players ahead of him at rb and centre half, so he gets a run out on the wing.

Never been played in his proper position for any length of time.
I think he'd do a very good job in the Championship as a right-back or centre-half- probably OK as a Premiership squad player in those positions.
Of course he's wank as a right winger though. How good do you think Shawcross or Huth would look if asked to play that position?

The problem with the TP/Shotton business is that TP thought he was a good footballer and gave RS a misconstrued value of his own worth. He could chuck a ball in the Delap fashion but that is where his usefulness began and ended.

Ryan Shotton - Andy Wilkinson - Brek Shea - Jamie Ness - Wilson Palacios
none of them anywhere near good enough for where we are going
and another point well made, earlier in this thread
If Ryan Shotton played for another club - would anyone want us to sign him ?
thought not - debate over

Marmite man? I wasn't aware that anyone liked him! Then again, I don't know anybody who likes marmite, either.
Worth a squad place as third choice right back behind Bardsley and Wilko.

And why anybody for the life of me would want to use this thread in order to take any form of swipe at Tony Pulis is quite beyond me, especially after what he did for us
- god only knows why ?
he had his time - he was great for Stoke City, cemented our place at a level in our game I thought I would never see again
So Im eternally grateful
Stubborn as a mule - he had his time But,both the club and the man handled his parting with dignity and respect
So should we

Shotton is clearly not a RM and is just filling in while PO is not there. He could do well in the Championship at RB though.
