All nats piss, Newcastle Brown for me with a Bacardi and Coke chaser I agree with the gnats piss bit Riv, but you can't beat a light n bitter. Mind you most places don't sell light or pale ale anymore. I'm becoming like the old scrotes who used to sit in the saloon bar drinking half a stout and playing fucking crib.
Old Speckled Hen is still 5.2 ...and as I'm aware it's still " Old " .....Crafty Hen is 6.5 I think ....but I could be wrong ......I haven't detected any difference in flavour recently personally ?
You're lucky. Not round here it ain't, Draught is 4.5%, eliminating that special zing it used to possess. From wiki: "the cask version was reduced to 4.5% abv in 2006 to make it more of a "sessionable beer"." Bottles and cans {no!} are 5%. It's still called 'Old' though, I imagined that. "Old Speckled Hen took its name from an MG car which was used as a runaround for workers in the MG factory. Over years of service, the car became covered in flecks of paint, gaining it acclaim in the town and earned it the nickname "Owld Speckled 'Un", translated into Old Speckled Hen for the brown ale first brewed by Morland in 1979 when the brewery was asked by MG to create a commemorative beer for the factory's 50th anniversary.[2][3] Daniel O'Leary, a cooper and former brewer, developed the recipe for the beer. Ian Williams was a personnel officer at the MG factory in Abingdon in 1979 and it was he who thought of using the name for the new ale."

My bête noire in the early 90s was Lowenbrau. A kind of proto Stella Artois. Do they still sell it? Always a huge mistake to drink it at the Crafty Cockney, then go lectures at Moorland Road College doh!

No doubt any lager afficionado will disagree with me but, all American light-coloured beers, whether it's Budweiser, Schlitz, Coors or whatever, taste virtually the same. I don't include their proper brews, like Boston Ale, for example. The American brewing industry is as varied as our own in its produce, but the traditional German-inspired lager-style beers are all anodyne and tasteless.

We used to have Schlitz (Shits) and other American beers in Belize. They were OK but only compared to the local beer, Belikin (Bellyache). Usually ended up on the Appletons rum which was lovely! Remember the malt liquors that came out, Breaker, now that was loopy juice!

Ensuring that it fulfilled GDs "crap" criteria. Was it a lager , though? I remember Not the Nine o'clock News parodying it as Barbarian.
