I served my apprenticeship on Nut Brown and Woodpecker, Arctic Lite, with the occasional Holsten Pils, and a cheeky Pernod and black now and then. My parents only really kept Advocat and a horrid flourescant green Mint, with a hint of chocolate cheap liqueur, glace cherries and sword cocktail sticks in their d rinks cabinet. So that was rarely raided.
The first time my folks went on holiday and left me at home, the food, and milkman money got frittered on Arctic Lite, we had to garden creep and distribute the empties around the neighbourhood bins. {I was about 14}
I have an uncle who regularly drank Brut at the end of the night, when he'd finished the booze.
I moved on to Tennants Pilsner, and then Batemen's Bitter, and more or less anything I could get my hands on or brew for myself. Always in moderation of course.
I've always be been partial to booze bargains, as long as the gravity is high enough to give it a kick, then I'm not a beer snob. I see no point whatsoever in drinking Fosters or Carling.
Marstons Pedigree, and Marstons special edition 'Pedro' are fine {when on form}. As is Titanic Plum Porter, and The Abbott Ale Xmas Reserve.

Owd Roger .....lovely drink , but powerful stuff in tandem with Pedigree ....I don't remember it being on draught though , just in those little bottles ....a similar mental concoction that I was introduced to was a Gold Label topped up to a pint with Double Diamond ....delicious but deadly !

Skol is available in big bottles in Malta and it tastes great, nothing like the Skol we get here. 5% for a start. View AttachmentIt's brewed on the Island by the local brewery Farson's they also brew Carlsberg there as well.......they do a very nice pale ale in bottles called. " Hopleaf " The local lager 'Cisk' is nice too. Has anyone else noticed how bad Spanish beers on the Spanish islands taste lately, rancid? A pint of Estrella or San Miguel tastes better here than in Ibiza or Mallorca.

It was around in my youth and it's still around now: Carling Black Label.
Meanwhile, Heineken: it's shite here, but very nice in Europe, largely because it's 5% ABV over there. Unfortunately Carlsberg is just as crap, whether it's here or in Copenhagen.

Unfortunately they've downsized the gravity {in a Stella way} of Old Speckled Hen. I always used to find it quite psychedelic at 5%. Marvellous stuff, but the last few times I've had it it's been a let down. Thinking about it they may have dropped the 'Old' too. 'Old' as a prefix to any beer should ring alarm bells... Check the gravity. Marstons 'Old Empire' is dangerous. In my view real Ale that is more than 6% becomes a chore to quoff. There are exceptions.
The Holy Inadequate in Shelton have a great selection and rotation of micro and mini brewed ales, porters, stouts and ciders. And great pork pies. The best I've had recently was an IPA called Earl Grey from a small Manchester Brewery {name eludes me at the mo.} A crisp and hoppy light ale with a surprising punch. The Beartown stout from Congleton is quality. Kid in a sweet shop time in the Inadequate.
Greene King Abbot Whim {Hartington} Flower Power Joules Slumbering Monk Timothy Taylor Landlord Everards Tiger St Austell Tribute Rock Doombar Thwaites Lancaster Bomber
in no particular order are my current locally/regularly available top 8 pints of ale {the Glorious Gallon}.
