27th August 1997 - Stoke vs Rochdale What a dreadful first time - lost 2-1 if I remember correctly, and in addition what an awful first season. Well done for sticking around as the year to follow was just as bad. 1-1. We scored in the 85th minute and still contrived not to win.

Slightly off track but I will have a go. I remember being in Longton Market on a Saturday afternoon - quieter than a Stoke fan who managed to get a ticket for a Millwall away game and ending up in the home end. I clearly recall being by the butchers and a woman in a blood soaked apron throwing her arms up in the air and screaming 'Yessssssss' as the radio in the background informed that we had scored. The next day ( although it may have been the Monday, I was six at the time) I stood with younger brother and parents in Meir cheering and waving my red and white mittens as the team went past on the open topped bus. That was it, although there had never been any doubt given that I insisted on listening to Sports Report from a very early age to hear how we had done. Besides anything else, I was born in Stoke, My Mum and Dad were born in Stoke. It was always going to be Stoke, How could it not be? I digress - middle age is a portent of things to come. One of which is wibbling on talking shite. Back to the point. Remember gong the Man City and Sunderland cup games and the match we played at Vile Park, after that it was the first season in the old Division Two when I went to every home game ( and a few away as well). I remember the programme with the Manager's editorial entitled 'By George'. Before we lost to Spartans ( and I was there as usual Block C Boothen) it was Bye George.

I think it was 1978 (which would make me 9yrs old) V Blackburn, we won 4-2 and I believe crooks got a hat trick. don't remember too much apart from being on the boothen with my brother and just being surrounding by a crowd! First away game was against preston and Howard Kendall scored the only goal amazing amount of stokies were there and distinctly remember seeing the running battles in the home end between the sets of supporters.

Harry Burrows and Denis Smith scored the goals. My Dad took me for a 9th birthday treat to watch The Shit. I think I've always been a bit of a disappointment to him. Sorry Beertricks don't know why I quoted your post. I do quite like your avatar though so it perhaps distracted me.

I haven't a clue what my first game was, probably around '63, my Dad took me as soon as he could, paddock first then Stoke end later, finally the Boothen End and Boothen Stand.

Barnsley in the F.A. Cup January 1989. We drew 3-3, though to be honest I can't remember it.

I'm sure it's been done before but heh ho. Mine was v Leicester at home March 77 1-0 defeat Worthington goal at the tender age of 7. My dad did take me to Crewe v Workington a couple of months before to break me in gently but it's always been the Potters and from memory I was a regular the year after. Yes this subject been raised before, my first game was a home loss to Walsall in the fa cup third round, 1966, they were in the old third division, we were in the first, now the premier of course. Score was 0-2.

First League game at the Brit - I've clearly erased my memory of this period

No idea what my first game was. It would be around 1970. Went a few matches but didn't get hooked until we played Ajax in 74.
No such problem remembering my little'un's first game though. Sat down for the kick-off and 13 seconds later was celebrating Bego's goal. 40 freakin' years I'd waited to see a keeper score and she'd seen it in her very first game. Magic moment.
