Aged 14, two school friends took me to my first Stoke game towards the end of the 83/84 season. They'd been going for years. I went with them numerous times the following season, which was the holocaust season. As a result they decided to support Man Ure instead leaving me alone and loyal to Stoke. So here's something I've wanted to get off my chest ever since then. Apologies in advance but it really has got to be said. PAUL STONELEY YOU ARE A GLORY HUNTING MAN U LOVING TREACHEROUS DISLOYAL TWAT and I AM STOKE you TWAT. Thanks for listening everyone, and sorry about all that. You can hold your head up high mate. Your former friend is everything that is wrong with football I.e. glory hunting scum.

Liverpool home 1981, 1-5 defeat! Dalglish, souness mcdermott etc under the lights I think. Good start but forever hooked. Ronnie Whelen scored a screamer at the Stoke end.

May 1972 at Hindmarsh Stadium - Adelaide South Australia vs SA State team who had never beaten am overseas team and who were 2 - 0 up with 5 minutes to go. Fortunately the mighty Potters scored twice in last 5 minutes to draw 2 - 2 and save this 14 year olds blushes.
Stoke team included most of League Cup winning team. Crowd was massive and were there to see the great Gordon Banks among others.

Stoke City 3-1 Leicester City . . . . . . . August 1956. A total of 11 home league games missed since then. And you call yourself Stoke fan FFS? But I was tempted to look at the results for that season and was left gob smacked at some scores at home.......8-0, 7-1, a couple of 6-0s, 5-1 and a couple of 4-1s. We were title contenders until a poor run of 6 straight defeats in March/April scuppered any hope leaving us 5th. On a happier note Vale were relegated finishing bottom.

10th October 1990, Rumbelows Cup, Stoke 1-2 West Ham. Gareth Evans scored the goal. We'd already been dicked 3-0 in the first leg so it was all but meaningless.

2nd Nov 1963 at home to Burnley 4-4 after we led 3-0 at half time. They battered us second half after our Eddie Clamp had been dismissed for sticking the nut on their winger John Connelly. Their final equaliser came from a Tony Allen og. Strangely enough our next home game two weeks later finished exactly the same 4-4 and once again we were 3 up at half time. 16 goals in my first two games watching Stoke. You mention Eddie Clamp there, he was a bit before my time, my Grandad and Uncle always reckoned he was the hardest player they ever saw play for Stoke, a real character. I'd be interested to hear what others who saw play remember of him.

There is a story regarding Eddie and Ron "Chopper" Harris of Chelsea fame.......Harris had clattered Stan several time in one game that required Eddie to whisper in his ear that if he came near Stan again he would take personal care of Harris. Needless to say Harris didn't, even though he was a hard case in his own right. Eddie only played 50 odd times for Stoke in nearly 3 seasons mainly due to suspensions. It is surprising what a lasting impression he has made on older Stokies considering the number of times he played.

New year's day 1978 v Notts County.
All I remember is we won 2-0 and I saw myself on Star Soccer the next day, stood in the Butler Street paddock.

Sir Stan's testimonial in April 1965 was my first game at The Vic. First league game was against Southampton on 15th October 1966 as a 9th Birthday treat. We won 3-2.

I had a cigarette card of Eddie Clamp demonstrating the correct way to tackle - shoulder forward over the ball , weight on the front foot firmly onto the ball. You dont see many tackles like that now, how the game has changed. I remember Eddie Clamp doing "keepie uppies" on the goal line with the opposition bearing down on him and then booting it away at the very last second with the Boothen End screaming at him to get rid. You remember stuff like that - he was a great character.

A friendly against Rosenborg in the early eighties (81-82?), but the first official game for me was at the Brit in January 2003 against Derby (lost 1-2).

It was 68/69 season against Man City at the Vic. I was 6 years old. I think Stoke won1-0. All I remember is the noise was deafening when we scored, the constant abuse - at Stoke players (couldn't quite figure out the abuse at our own players!). Was totally hooked and went to loads of matches after that with my Grandad!

1-0 home win v. QPR 76/77 season.
Open Stoke End, stood next to QPR fans.
Vividly remember "fackin' 'ell Fwraaancis" yell to Gerry Francis!
"Englands No.1" chant for Shilton.
Ginger haired Terry Conroy.
The ball got stuck between a drainpipe and the wall up near the players box side of Boothen End/Stand.
Pennys to get in!
Excitement!!

First game was 28th December 1974 beating West Ham 2-1 in a league game. I had never seen an adult person the size or colour of Clyde Best who was a mountain of a man. Seem to remember Jimmy Greenhoff having a blinder that day although I may be getting mixed up. I was only 6 so I was with my dad that day and it would be a few years later before I would go with friends. Same for me, we were a bit lucky to get a penalty, and Geoff Hurst got the winner off a crossbar rebound. I was 9 so I remember better

27th August 1997 - Stoke vs Rochdale What a dreadful first time - lost 2-1 if I remember correctly, and in addition what an awful first season. Well done for sticking around as the year to follow was just as bad.

Lots of oldies here, some of whom attended their first game 40 odd years before mine! *doffs cap*
I remember my first game was around the turn of the millennium. Not sure what game, but almost certainly the year 2000.
