Where would you go to and why? Mexico or Oz for me great weather, great beaches, relaxed way of life and no fucking EU. Gouranga.

Mexico is a shit hole with nice beaches From what I've seen you're right, Acapulco the only place I've been in Mexico and a long time ago, was ok but I've been to a lot better places and from my ablutionary experiences I think I'd be very slim if I spent any length of time there.

Don't get me wrong I like Mexico , was there in jan this year , the resorts are top notch although as you say Acapulco isn't all that . I went in 87 and like you and many others spent most of the week in the loo

Always said my first choice would be Canada and second would be New Zealand. Never been either but both are part of the common wealth and speak English (other than the french-canadian) Canada has proper seasons as in good summers and real winters and both have great scenic country. I would say both are upcoming econimies aswell.

The Bahamas. It's not too shabby.... It's very nice, but unless things have changed dramatically you've also got to pawn your bollocks to be able to afford to buy a beer, Freeport was 2nd in the world in ridiculously high prices when I was there, was years ago tho'. Nassau was a bit more reasonable granted, but still pretty dear.

As a lot of you know I now live in Thailand and love it here, however I would not really want to retire here, if I had the money I would retire to Shenzhen is South East China, about 45 min ferry ride from Hong Kong. Was there a couple of weeks ago, and going back again on Wednesday, just spotlessly clean, civilised, fairly cheap and you just feel very safe there. I think Britsabroad lives there...

I'd go somewhere like that or New Zealand.

Nassau was a bit more reasonable granted, but still pretty dear. $4 will get you a beer anywhere in Freeport. Freeport (Grand Bahama in general), is also desperate for, investment. It's economy is on it's knees. Property there , especially land is very reasonable as there is so much of it. Nassau is and always has been expensive for most things. Outside of the hotels, $4 will also see you get a beer in most bars.
