Guernsey I've loved it there since I was a kid Every time I've visited I never wanted to go home Went to Guernsey in 1993 on a short term contract and never came back ! Its a great place to live but expensive. Sark is also a wonderful island but has been ruined by the greed of the Barclay brothers and internal politics on the island. However in 8 years time I retire and will be leaving to go to my dream house just outside Vegas GD

I got a few pals in Finance in HK, Devere, Global Eye, Henley Group... I know a couple of guys at Henley Group, not many Stokies that I know of here in general though. I take it you're an IFA if you know people at those places? Was a few years ago in Shanghai. Now I have my own distribution Co selling Structured Notes via IFA's Also do some importing and exporting, as I see the offshore IFA market in huge decline. That's why I'm back in Guangzhou this week going to Canton Fair.

It's like most places mate. Stay around the hotels and you will pay through the nose. Freeport rugby club is still thriving. The green Shutters closed for years and is now an Indian restaurant. I never was keen on it. Ive got some old photos from freeport rugby club when we were there mid 80's bought some of their red t shirts, I think they were red Sent from my LT30p using proboards They still wear red! Did you play in Nassau too?

Having seen mist of the world in my 34 years navy career all I can say is that there is nowhere else on this earth I would live. Yes there are beautiful places to live but nothing compares to living where I do in Devon.

I agree with you mate ......but as you get on a bit you do wish for some better weather I think it's the climate most people would like to get away from ...the lure of sunshine is a great one for me ..

I'm sure you've had a good look at plenty of seawater and barnacles, the undersides of bunk beds, blokes arses and a number of deep water ports but, hey, most of the world?

Ah well some do have a low boredom threshold I suppose ....I am quite content with little more than good reading material , good food and drink and nice warm sunshine to enjoy them in ....easily pleased

No not at all .....there are subtle differences .....but I won't go into them What are the differences? I'm interested. Well the main difference is size .....a ship is normally considered to be such if it's weight is around 500 tons or more ....ships operate normally as vessels on the high seas and oceans whereas boats tend to be much smaller and although they operate at sea, lot of the time they oprerate on inland stretches of water such as lakes , rivers , canals etc, they can also be flat bottomed whereas a ship has a conventional keel ...Also a boat can be carried on a ship but not vice versa ....there are one or two more differences , it's mostly how they are interpreted that make them so

Container Ship on which my son is training to be an Officer at the moment ( this ship to be precise ) As for where I would like to live ....we have been planning for some time for it to be Lanzarote , other than there I have a leaning towards Cyprus ...somewhere warm but not too far away

Cheers Bish. How old is your lad? I have been to both Lanzarote and Cyprus too.
In Lanzarote we stayed in Costa Teguise, hired a jeep and had a good look around. Very unusual landscape - apparently some of the NASA Apollo crews trained in the national park toward the south of the island. I really didn't like Arrecife though. The northern tip, just by the harbour, along with Puerto Del Carmen seemed like the best parts to me, in fact there were hang gliders riding the thermals on the cliffs up there. Really nice.
In Cyprus we stayed put in Paphos but I would have liked to have seen more of the island as my Dad was stationed in Nicosia back in the late fifties. I do remember the sea being crystal clear and I think the food choice was better on Cyprus too.
To be honest I really rate Majorca as a mediterranean island, with Port de Pollenca as the star. But you do tire of an islands constraints after a time (well, I do).

I know Costa Teguise well ,Playa Blanca is nice as well, yes it's right about the Apollo crews , Neil Armstrong was the first of them to visit .....several of them returned for geological training as well . I concur with you about Majorca and Puerto Pollenca in particular ....I love Pollenca ....conversely I personally love being on an Island

Cannot get on with the OP's question personally, Britain isn't a "shithole" in my opinion.
