Smith, Dodd, Bloor, Bould, Huth, Doyle, Watson are better Cranson ,Overson, Berry, Faye, Shawcross etc are on the next level down Bould rarely, if ever, played at centre half for Stoke in the top flight and as outstanding as they were, Watson and Doyle didn't give Stoke half the service Ryan has given us. Ryan has stepped up to the plate in Huthy's absence to prove that he is the better player in my view. I'm not quite sure what your problem is with Ryan Shawcross but you clearly have something against him. Franklin is probably the best center half to play for Stoke and in his time the best in the world and he only played about 30 games more than Doyle for us, so according to the way you are doing it we have to forget them and make Eric Skeels the best (good choice) I have no problem with Ryan, l like him and think he is a good player but don't think he is as good as a lot of people on here think what I don't like is this modern day X factor type hero worshiping and every other player being blamed for his mistakes

Add to that the fact that he thinks Wilson's a better CB than him and that it could be a Huth/Wilson partnership next year and one can only conclude that the man's a fucking moron with a strange agenda against our skipper. Well it could be the best partnership next year because according to clowns like you Ryan is going to be sold for €30 million, what's moronic about that ? Anyway you are a Liverpool supporter aren't you you Fucking Gobshite

Thought not, because I've never said it and I'd never be so fucking moronic as to use Euros. Any evidence to support the claim that I'm a Liverpool fan? Nope? Again, you're a fucking moron.

Ken Thomson signed for us from Aberdeen in the late forties or early fifties cant remember which. He bestrode theVictoria Ground like the colosuss he was he was, I personally NEVER saw him beaten in the air, he was a supreme tackler probably the best in the League, while his reading of the game and speed of movement were unbelievable. It was a disgrace he was never picked for Scotland. After a good few years with us when his powers were starting to wain he joined MIddlesboro and later Hartlepools, where he sadly died on the local golf course.

Asked my Uncle today about Neil Franklin. He watched him in most of the games he played for us in the 1940's. He said he was the best has ever seen not just for Stoke but anyone ever since. I asked him to pick a current player who is comparable. He said he couldn't as no one is close!
He went on to say he was the best header of the ball. Every time it came off his head it went straight to a team mate. It seemed he had a magical ability no matter how difficult the header, it went straight to the feet. He was composed and upright always with time on the ball. If an opposing player tried to tackle him he would just ghost pass them, look up, beat another and calmly pass the ball. This was what you got game after game. Pure class.

Who's in your top five then? If you're under 50 then I would suggest that only Denis Smith or Alan Bloor can match Ryan's achievement of playing so consistently well for six seasons at the top level for our club. I've seen other other great centre halves like Mike Doyle and Dave Watson, but they didn't give us the service Ryan has given us. He's a Stoke City legend as far as I'm concerned. Smith, Dodd, Bloor, Bould, Huth, Doyle, Watson are better Cranson ,Overson, Berry, Faye, Shawcross etc are on the next level down Ryan Shawcross is on the same level as.....wait for it.....GEORGE BERRY? You've clearly been watching Stoke for a long time, but quite possibly under the influence of powerful hallucinogenics for the last thirty years. What the fucking hell?

'Stoke City history' covers a whole lot of years and the most any of us can say is that someone is the 'best I've seen'. However, NF's class was recognised world-wide (ask Italians and Portuguese fans of the time) - in the same way as Matthews, Steele and Banks are remembered outside Stoke and England.
