Based on this season Rodgers looks to be an great coach, tactician and man manager, but it still doesn't feel right not to have an Englishman in charge. And would he take it? Looking at the League, Pardew, Bruce and Allardyce are the most successful English managers. Scary. Should we be putting a rising star in with Roy to learn the ropes? If it's not an ex player like Gary Neville who has no managerial experience, there doesn't seem to be one. Just wonder if the FA might go for Arsene Wenger if he packs it in at Arsenal. Shawcross would be thrilled with a Wenger appointment!

Who the manager is won't make much difference to many things.

*ducks for cover* Would it be ludicrous to suggest we could do worse than consider Jason Puncheon? He's absolutely bang in form, which isn't always considered when it comes down to final selection. He's shown flashes of brilliance in the past, but he really seems to have put it all together under Pulis. Some of his contributions are top class.

Did any Stoke winger get anywhere near that under TP? How many has Arnie scored?

Not a bad shout, FM. With Walcott out, who would of been a starter, we're looking at Sterling & Townsend in that role but, for me at least, the latter still has everything to prove and that spot should still be open to other players such as Puncheon.
We all know that Woy will go with Milner or Welbeck though. Work aarrd etc.

Sterling has to be involved. He's earned a chance.

Does anybody else think Caulker is overrated?
I reckon Hodgson will pick him for certain in the WC squad.

Sterling can beat his man. Rarity for an English player.

He's probably been a nailed-on squad member for weeks.
But you'd be amazed if he didn't start the Italy game.

With the players we've got currently in form we've got a really good chane of doing well. It's down to Roy if he as the balls to pick the in form players!!!

I feel as though this is one of the weakest 'senior' squads of recent times I'd take youth to develop for future tournaments Shaw, Barkley, Sterling and the ilk and just go at them with pace. Personally think the midfield should be
Henderson Gerrard Barkley

Good to see someone seeing the England team in a positive light. I think if we go with players on form and forget the crap from man utd and arsenal etc we could do very well. Quarter finals minimum. Off the top of my head I came up with this side Hart Johnson cahill terry shaw Gerrard Henderson Lallana Sturridge Rooney sterling That was a quick one and I realise terry probably won't come back so go with jagielka. But that team has partnerships all over it. The Liverpool lads, soton lads, Chelsea pairing at cb. Plus there's Barkley Baines etc to think about

Liverpool winning the league will give their lads some momentum and that winning mentality. Good for England.
I'd probably take Flanagan as well.

Time to fuck Rooney off and start ignoring reputations. Pick the players in form and full of confidence, that means Johnson, Henderson, Gerrard, Sturridge and Sterling should all start. Some players in decent form making a late run for it. Flanagan instead of Walker, Stones instead of Jones, why the hell not??

He tore us a new one for Southampton at a time when we had the best defence in Europe, I was surprised that they let him go at all. England, though? I'm not so sure about that. As it stands, I think I'd cram as many Liverpool players in the side as possible. Form, momentum and chemistry count for a lot in my book.

We always seem to have a competitive side on paper and manage to bumble through the group stage before falling to the first decent side we come up against usually putting up a decent show in our final game. Problem this time around is we are in a very tough qualifying group.

I was watching the Juventus vs Lyon game a couple of Thursdays back and Lyon deployed Steed Malbranque to just follow Andrea Pirlo around and not give him any space. In that game Pirlo was very ineffective so I feel we just need to give James Milner or a player of that ilk the task to follow Pirlo around. This would then neutralise their best player and make them play their game around him. It can also cause them problems as the centre backs have to carry the ball out of the defence by themselves and if they get tackled we should score.

Last time we played them, Woy actually saw what was needed - it was Rooney's job to sit on Pirlo and, he failed miserably; Pirlo controlled the match. The way to beat Italy is by, as you say, sitting on Pirlo. Not Rooney though, Woy.

Do people on this thread honestly think that Rooney shouldn't start for England in the summer?
Without Rooney we wont even get out of the group stages.
I think he will have a decent tournament this year.

In my opinion I dont think they will reach the quarter finals even though they are the hosts. Belgium have a seriously strong squad all over the pitch. For me if England make it out of the group stages I will be happy.

So this weekend Stones is the new flavour of the month is he? Done nowt to earn an England call whatsoever. Players get it all too soon and too early for my liking, nothing is earned anymore. He is just an average decent defender. And don't get me started on Oxlade -Chamberlain!
