I'll be honest, the missus and I would go to about 11-15 away games, we'd always make a point of making sure we'd go to any ground we haven't been before and we'd either drive or take the train. Been on club coaches a couple of times and wont use them again. We just got fed up spunking away our money on watching us sit back trying to draw 0-0, we weren't having fun and if it's not fun, then why bother? Football away from home has become a chore, I can take the beatings, had enough of them over the years, it's the not trying to win I can't take, kn owing we're going sit back, close ranks, make it hard for them break us down before we even get there is what loses my enthusiasm to go. I could use the excuse to say its too expensive, which it is but when I was enjoying going away, I'd always find a way of going, it wasn't about how much it was costing, it was making sure I was there to cheer on the team. Once it stopped being fun, my head took over from my heart. Anyone who knows me knows I love away days a lot more than home games. If they had a choice of a home season ticket or an away one, I'd have always paid for the away one. But the fun and adventure has been killed for me, if ever I find it again I'll be back travelling up and down the country. Stoke broke your heart & they need to rekindle your love... Either that or we've been having ideas above our station!?!

Money is never the main concern(though it is an issue)but having a good day out ruined by the match makes travelling a waste of time!Last few away days we,ve spent in the commercial in Stoke, watch the match and have a good piss up with the lads. No depression if we lose cause we don't have to sit in traffic for two hours waiting to get back on the motorway home!!

The replies sum up stokes support lately, shit at home and none existant away. 37 quid isnt bad for travel and a match so thats a poor excuse. '£37 isn't bad' W O W £37! for a standard football match is bonkers the fact that so many are prepared to pay it is even more bonkers

How is £37 cheap?

Post by partickpotter on Feb 16, 2014 9:22:34 GMT
It isn't of course! By way of illustration consider that watching a game in 1990 would set you back around £6 which, inflation adjusted, is equivalent to around £11 today. QED. Cheap would be something under £10.

I dreamt about watching my team take on the top clubs away from home prior to promotion
Once you are in the premiership you realise it's all bollicks and I would sooner spend my cash at the likes of Southampton last week and Norwich in March and travelling independently
If that's alright with the OP ?

It's funny how support varies between clubs , Everton for example take great support everywhere , just watching their game now and home areas of ground seems full, how many would we have got today for a lunchtime ITV game v Swansea ? but we are not the only ones to drop off, seems hardly any Swansea fans at the game and the money for travel has been given to clubs for fear of losing support not from any generosity as Scholes tried to make out in our case .
I am going a lot less , love the day out so club bus is a no no for me , like a wander , a few pubs and a good game , problem with Citeh is it's usually ritual humiliation and whoever we lose to usually pisses me off when I go even though logically it's the most likely result , not decided about next week yet but I think the subject of our support home and away is a much bigger debate, a lot was blamed on TP but this year it's even worse in terms of noise and numbers and I would expect another drop in season tickets next year , not sure how you retain enthusiasm in mid to lower table teams

With cheap 37 quid tickets and free travel to the the match , why on earth would we not take our full allocation ?

£37 a ticket is just an absolute joke.
People keep banging on about the free travel. There is in my eyes nothing worse than being hearded like cattle from the Brit to the away ground in the ground then back to the Brit.
The real buzz of an awayday for me is getting up early , getting the train to the away city/town. Seeing new places, having a few drinks and going the game.
Free travel takes all of the excitement out of it and god forbid you sneeze or cough the 'up their own arses' brigade look at you like a piece of shit.
I went for years in the lower leagues. This year I have done Spurs, Brum and Tranmere. Tranmere being one of the best away's I have had for a long time.

I admit , I have never been on the free coaches, I always drive, but for those who don't have the dosh to drive or take the train, £37 a ticket is a pretty cheap day out

I was debating whether or not to go next weekend, I usually would but it's has been rubbish following Stoke away this this season - not just the football but our following itself. With both Chelsea and Southampton not too distant memories I ask myself - can I justify spending the money to stand in a half empty away section - it's pretty embarrassing. I miss turning up in strong numbers with the "We are Stoke and we are here..." attitude and regardless of result having a laugh and making a noise. That's a distant memory now. We are the laughing stock of the league - lifeless and limp.
We sold out at Old Trafford at £50 a pop in October, same distance and more expensive.
To not go to a game because you won't win - frankly I don't get it. I will be there next Saturday and hoping we can make a good appearance.

£37 is simply not cheap.
I'm moving back to Manchester in September so if we stay up I'll probably go, but that's just because it will be on my doorstep and I've only been to the etihad once, which was an awful game on NYD.
Anything above 500 will be a great turnout.

£37 is obscene. The Germans pay about £13 ticket (for Bayern) - and that gets them free travel too.
I use to go home and away - pretty much every game (living 230 miles away too). It's just ridiculously expensive now.
Some can afford it but whether you can or not the prices are just obscene.

£37 with free travel for 4 of us to watch us potentially get battered before we contemplate adding ale and food on top of our outlay,
Or
4 x £37 = £148 for 4 lads to watch the match in a number of pubs in Stoke with a fucking big beer kitty.
You decide.

The longer fans in the UK regard £37 as 'pretty cheap' the longer clubs will continue to fleece the fans week in week out. Fact is the majority of folk will be sat in the warmth of their local boozer sinking several pints next Saturday and taking plenty of change home from their £ 37.

Thats very true mate but what away games are fans going to turnout for then?I really don't see us taking big away supports any longer unless something is resting on the game or an important cup game.Thoughts?

Maybe relegation would be a welcomed prospect for this club and its supporters. Cheaper ticket prices? So few people seem interested in paying the money to attend the games in this league; makes you wonder what the point is.
All that we went through to get promoted was that just to watch games online/tv for free... Modern football, eh?
(For the record I don't agree with football pricing but we knew it was dear before we willed promotion to the Prem, just like we knew there would be at least 10 teams better than us)

I know, why don't team owners just put on free transportation to home AND away matches, £5 tickets, £1 pies, 50p beer and see how long the teams stay in business.

The Prem league gets £BILLIONS from the TV deal alone they could PAY people to go & still make MORE money than they we're before the last TV deal. Prem league argues that they need the money to pay the wages for the superstars but why do they need to pay players so much MORE than their their European counterparts? PLayers will come for 50% more than they get in Italy or Germany e.t.c. so why pay them 250% more?

Away games left Man City Norwich Villa Chelsea Cardiff West Brom The only game that the fans will turnout imo is West Brom, the rest we'll be lucky to take a 1000 to each of them which a few years back would have been unthinkable but a sign of the times i'm afraid.

You should never have to pay more than 20 quid to watch a football match. The game is awash with money and knobheads like Rooney and terry are getting obscene amounts of money, I repeat football should be 20 quid maximum. Anything more is pure bollocks and the fact fans pay it is even worse.
