Defensive midfielder coach at Stoke. Give it a month Whelan and Palacios will be like Claude Makelele reincarnated.......

wonder if he,s heading to Palace they should offer him a job at Stoke Doing what exactly? Coaching? Tea making? Kit man? Coach driver? He might be pretty shit at every single one of those jobs. Funny how folk would employ someone on the basis of them being a good bloke. This is top level professional football we're involved in,and now the previous "jobs for the boys" incumbent has gone,we have left all that sentimental bollocks behind.

Rory was the face of our journey from the Championship to becoming an established Premier League side.
That throw gave us some brilliant moments even if it did become a symbol for our limitations towards the end of his time here. Hope he stays in the game and does well.

Does he plan to go into coaching? He's been doing his badges so i would assume so, would be a good coach wherever he ends up and i wish him all the best and thanks for the memories and part he played for Stoke

Funny how some are inclined to rubbish the idea that one of our most influential players from the last thirty years might have a bit about him. He strikes me as knowledgable, experienced and a good communicator. Unfortunately he's not Spanish but apart from that he may well have what it takes to succeed in coaching.

We still haven't replaced him really. I'd have him back here as a coach in a flash because if he can turn his intelligence on the pitch into being an excellent coach then he really would be a decent asset to have at the club.
Good luck for the future Rory!

Yes and there is every chance he won't. I'm not rubbishing any idea that Delap will be a good coach,I'm just rubbishing people's ideas of handing out a massively important job to someone who has no experience whatsoever in a coaching role, all because he is a top bloke and good to have around the place.

Giving Rory a similar role to start with (which is what I'd offer him) wouldn't be that much of a big deal.

That's fair enough but personally I suspect there's a bit more to Rory than just being a good influence and a top bloke. Football wise he's been a great servant, fitness wise he's clearly looked after himself and he's had experience of a great variety of coaches and styles. He's one who I've often thought may have a future in coaching although that may well turn out not to be the case. One thing that may count against him is that he seems a bit too nice but maybe he picked up a few nasty tips of The Despicable One.

A good honest, professional that puts most modern footballers to shame and one we're seeing less and less in the game.
All the best Rory, thank you for everything you helped us achieve.

I'm sure Rpry is too sensible to think that he'd just walk into a senior coaching position at a Prem Club even when he is qualified as a coach. He worked his way up as a player and I'm sure he'll be happy to work his way up as a coach.
Given his personality and integrity, I'd welcome him at Stoke as a (junior) part of the coching team, to enable him to gain practical coaching experience. He may turn out to be the dog's bollox - he may turn out to be unsuited for management - but given what he has done for this club over the years, he's worth a try.

What a top bloke but as some seem to forget; (mostly outside of Stoke) what a top player.
He was tremendous in our promotion campaign and without even mentioning his throws, he was superb in the 2008-09 season.
All the best in your retirement, Rory and I look forward to seeing you back at the Brit.

There is a saying...'you reap what you sow'
I remember how surprised we were when he broke his leg and we honoured the agreement to sign him.
It was a signal in how we had changed as a club and by God did it pay dividends.
He was a superb player and his throws were the icing on the cake.
I don't think anything will feel like Mama's winner v Villa....
