Whatever he now does, wherever he now goes, he deserves our best wishes. He was the meaning of the words 'a true professional'. Both on the the field, he was a credit to our club, and the game of football. Off the field, he had the heart of a Potter, and was really one of our own. All the very best of everything, Rory, to a player I was proud to see wearing our stripes.

Oh no... Rumours of a minutes applause on the 24th minute on wednesday. Remember what happened last time we did that against the shit. Not a good idea. He's still alive anyway.
Good luck rory. Without you we wouldn't be where we are today. FACT.

Stoke Loud & Proud have just posted this on their page, I think it's a great idea personally -
A minutes applause in the 24th minute for Rory Delap on Wednesday who announced is retirement today.
His throws were immense in our first season in the Premier League other teams just couldn't deal with them.
Rory is one of the nicest people I've met and all his charity work he did for the Donna Louise Trust was unbelievable. Every Stokie wishes you all the best in the future Rory.

Instead off a naff minute's applause, I'd far rather have him as the guest of honour at a game so he can have a proper send off.
Those social media groups are just about the most aggravating things going.

What about if we sing " there's only Rory Delap" I think that would be far more appropriate than this ridiculous idea of a minute applause.

The footballing snobs and anti-TP brigade will be here on denying his contribution and significance to our rise from obscurity.

The footballing snobs and anti-TP brigade will be here on denying his contribution and significance to our rise from obscurity. Are you sure about that? They seem thankfully absent from the thread so far. I think a large majority of Stokies appreciate Rory's contribution, whatever side of the great Pulis debate they are on.

Stoke loud and proud have got the minutes applause gathering pace. FFS embarrassing. Can't we just sing his name or something? Embarrassing stuff. Seriously, what the fucking hell is up with some of our fans? We've got applauses for literally anything and our fan of the year sending out Christmas cards with his own fucking face on it. Cringe. Complete cringe.

I reckon Rory, a player who never sought any limelight when he played, would be a bit embarrassed by being in it after retirement

A winning combination of a good player, a unique talent and a thoroughly decent personality. We were lucky to have him wear the shirt and I hope he will be involved with the ongoing development of the club in the future.

It's safe to say we wouldn't be in the premier league if it were not for him in the first few seasons. Although it got a bit boring, the first few years with him were amazing.

Rory always gave 100% on the pitch and gave the same to the local community. It's fair to say his attributes should be held up as an example to all young players that it is possible to give as well as to take. I thought we had seen the last of Rory after his horrendous double leg break. The guy came back and I honestly can't remember hearing any whinging about it from him. In this too an example to other on how to behave like a MAN.
