Anyone else have a really good feeling about this? I base it on absolutely nothing, but I think he's going to be a star for us. I don't see a "lose" here, like you I have a feeling he'll do well at our level, if not he's already performed well at a level equivalent to upper championship and we have a player we've signed on a free that's probably worth a million or two to a continental team. No real downside.

He only has even the possibility of being a star for us if he is allowed to play for us. So when is the first opportunity we have to apply again for a work permit and when practically when might we do it and what would need to be different for us to succeed where we failed before?

You have to consider that he's only 21. Even if we had been successful in getting a permit the first time round, chances are that he would have been sent out on loan anyway to get regular first team football. Like Bayern said, I'd be very surprised if we haven't been given a nod and a wink ahead of the appeal in a few months. Depending on how well he does in Europe, I think we'll start seeing him being eased into the first team next season as 'Mark and his team' clearly rate him. Exciting stuff.

Nothing of substance would be different by March though would it, so were a work permit to be granted at that point it would be tantamount to admitting they screwed up first time which administrators don't like to do in my experience. Oh well, we shall see, fingers crossed!

And like I said, the word is the Premier League didn't like the decision and we all know who wear the trousers.....

No real downside. Exactly right, I have my doubts about agudelo being able to cut it in England, but he was a steal with a lot of upside. Worst case scenario he does nothing for us and we sell him back to a MLS club, most likely for a profit.

I'm much more hopeful about him now we're not pinning any expectation on him to solve our forward problems this month.

First and foremost he has to have the skill and the agility/speed.
The fitness and guile we can work on later.
I say that his chances of success are 60/40.

The choice of spending approx. £20m in a transfer window on players like Crouch, Palacios and Jerome on a regular basis was not going to work for ever for a club like Stoke. Especially when two of them have hardly been used since they were signed. Last year we lost I believe £30m while we had Michael Owen on the bench and not been given a game as well as many others.
Signing players like Agudelo is the way forward. Not just because of the low cost, but also because of the technical ability they have.
Sending him on loan to a club in Holland would make more sense than sending him on loan to a Championship side even if it was an option. Due the technical ability of players he will be playing with.

He's just confirmed he's going to Utrecht.
It's a good move for him, it's a decent level for the step up from MLS to Premier League football and he's in a country that most of the inhabitants can probably speak English better than him or me or You. So that's excellent too.

It must be a precondition of the loan that we expect him to figure a lot. Losing 3-2 to Feyenoord this afternoon, and seem to play a 4-3-3They've got a cup Q-F this coming midweek, and a big game at home to Ajax in a fortnight. Utrecht fixtures16 games left for them, so you'd like to think he could get at least 6 or 7 goals in a weakish league to press his case for a permit. Don't suppose it'll help us much if a.) he doesn't play much or b.) doesn't score.

I guess it depends where he plays, he can play along the front three but You'd hope he'd get decent returns in terms of goals and assists.

It would be nice if there was something official from the club that said we'd signed him. It was days ago that he tweeted that he'd signed so why the fuck the club not put something on the website?
Its as clear a mud.

All positive as far as I'm concerned. 21, just a kid, will get first team football and clearly has the potential to be a game changer. Hopefully he'll be walking out next season brimming in confidence and will impress us all.

And before that, let's just hope he escaped with his life (& legs intact) from the Barnsley* 'let's bash anyone who looks odd' mafia after his night out with Brekkers.
