Tony Pulis genuinely being linked with another Premier League job?
I'll believe it when I see it to be honest.
If Sunderland have a shortlist of 20 candidates, I imagine that Pulis would be no.20.
That is not to say that he wouldn't do a decent job but truth is, he simply isn't a very appealing candidate to modern day chairmen. He is dour and his teams are associated with being dour which does him no favours.
TP produced some of the best football I have seen Stoke play but he also delivered some of the worst. Sadly, in the modern world, for Pulis, the focus will always be on the negative. Pulis won't get another Premier League job unless the club he goes to are absolutely desperate. Sunderland, rightly or wrongly, consider themselves a big club above desperation and somebody like Pulis.
As I say, I will believe it when I see it but I don't see Pulis getting anywhere near securing a Premier League job, be that Sunderland or anyone else.

Last Night on BBC "Look North" they commented on Pulis being one of the bookies top three favourites and said that they found as many fans for him as against him. They didn't actually find a fan who was prepared to say on camera that he wanted TP, though!

Some of the little cunts on there... they don't even deserve to have TP manage them, because all of us know he would keep them up no matter what. He was taking us down Disappointed you didn't finish with FACT! Although of course there is no evidence to support the claim. Having never been relegated and with 9 of Sundays starting 11 being here before the new manager, I would suggest that we were never going to be relegated especially with a manager with 800 games and no delegations in his career

Yes, you've got me... towards the end I was one of those calling for his head but would be great to see Pulis back in the Prem. Give him the thumbs up!! I think he'd be a better shout for them than Poyet or Di Matteo.

Still remember the play off with gillingham , that rocket from hessenthaller , hated him at the time Peter Taylor was Gills manager by then. TP had his 'issues' with the charming Mr Scally & for 'some reason' left the summer before. Anyways: We're obssesed with TP arent we(?). Do we all need counselling?

That's one way of getting relegated. Why's that then, Pulis has NEVER been relegated! In the last 2 years the football was dire, boring, inane, insane, mundane, totally utterly shite and embarassing. We nearly went down last season, If he`d been allowed another season we would have gone down.

If anyone could mould the remnants of Brit pros at the club into a difficult to beat team that might avoid the drop ( but that bores everyone shitless at the same time ) then Mr Pulis could organise the likes of O'Shea, Brown, Cattermole etc into a team that would at least be hard to beat. However not not sure the squad has enough such players to play Pulis ball.
Would they really go for Poyet with his track record after the disaster of Di Canio? Culturally, for the set up/staff/squad they have in place at Sunderland at the moment probably Di Matteo the best option and let's not forget that Chelsea won the European cup playing a superior brand of Pulis ball!!

he wont need to play pulisball:-
"I've got an open mind. I was born to work and my wife is getting fed up of me already! People talk about the style of football my teams play, but if I went to Chelsea tomorrow the style would be different to Stoke because of the players available. I do think you get pigeon-holed in England, but I'm not complaining. I've had a fantastic career. If people want to criticise me, they have a right to do that. It doesn't upset me at all. If they scratch beneath the surface, they'll see what I'm all about and the things I've achieved in my career with small budgets and small, unfashionable clubs. I think I've done OK and I hope I get the opportunity to do it again."

There is nothing wrong with Tony Pulis. He did more for this club than any manager did in quarter of a century. The promotion first and foremost, but he played his part in establishing a structure that his successor has been quick to credit and it will continue to benefit the club. For all his faults, he left us a legacy that will be going strong long after the style of football is forgotten.
There is also nothing wrong with Stoke terminating their relationship with Pulis. By doing it without the threat of relegation forcing the club's hand, it shows an intent to move on and evolve.
There would IMO be nothing wrong with Sunderland appointing him as manager. There are no guarantees, but he would be a good appointment to help them avoid relegation and a good person to straighten things out, put a structure in place and allow then to move on at some point. They have been playing musical managers for ten years now. Quick fixes don't come easily for clubs like Stoke and Sunderland, slow progress is less appealing to the punters, but it probably offers longer term benefits. Sunderland need a few years with a strong manager getting the structures sorted. Pulis would be an ideal candidate. I dont doubt there are other candidates, but there is more to Pulis than the style of football. He should not be overlooked too quickly.

If he got the job would he see the game against us as a bonus game? "Nah Nige, Stoke were in a cup final 2 years ago, it's a tough tough game...." "Their reserves nearly beat Valencia away a couple of years ago."
