Blathers won it ....133 votes to 71. There you go .... So its not just African votes then as people like to make out. Are we sure all European countries are opposed to Blatter?

No he hasn't. He'll win it on the second ballot of course but Ali was attempting to stop Blatter winning in the first round of voting, which he has achieved - in effect it shows a big lack of confidence in Blatter and will be considered a victory by his critics. That depends if folk vote the same way second time round. There'll be plenty of lobbying going on at the moment. There's a discussion going on right now in the Ali camp about whether to even force the hall to go again. Can you believe there was three spoiled voting papers - UNBELIEVABLE!

I don't get why they all have to vote again when there are only 2 candidates.
Just announce that Blatter didn't get 66%, but did get a majority so he is elected.

From BBC Sport website "18:15 - Prince Ali bin al-Hussein withdraws from Fifa presidential election." A dignified way to deal with the situation - it's up to football to make Fifa more accountable - it will be interesting to see how major sponsors / backers / football associations respond

They agreed earlier that whoever won wouldn't give an acceptance speech.
Guess what Blatter's doing right now ...

"It is over. We have been spared a second vote by the withdrawal of Prince Ali bin al-Hussein. And so Sepp Blatter is re-elected for a fifth term as Fifa president.
Prince Ali leaves the stage receiving handshakes and hugs from fellow delegates as he does so."
"There are a couple of boos as Sepp Blatter is introduced to the stage to deliver his victory speech. Blatter doesnt react, instead clasping his hands and raising them in triumph."

I understand why UEFA should withdraw from the World Cup, but the very thought scares me. I can't imagine the World cup being completely ruined like that. It'd be so sad.

Would be good if Premier League insisted on sticking to their normal winter program.

Now have the FA got the balls??????? Moment of Truth!!!!!! World football would be glad to get rid of England. UEFA need to act. Withdraw from Fifa and organise there own tournament, and invite other federations to participate. It's time for action but nothing will be done.

Already completely ruined by Qatar and would totally disrupt Premier League into the bargain. Well worth it to rid football of corruption on this scale.

What difference would it have made if the other one was elected? We should withdraw from these next two tournaments anyway. We are the motherland offootball and we have been insulted. It is a disgrace we haven't held the tournament since 66. We need to make a stand

Although as a fan of the international game I'd rather see a full world cup and have the PL take a one month break rather than just have half the field and all the best teams completely absent.

Pointless the FA withdrawing on their own. If UEFA withdraws en masse then FIFA would fucked.

The whole situation is a corrupt mess . Football at the highest level is a complete shambles . Crap.

Who says crime doesn't pay I'm sure he will be prosecuted for something shortly
I'm thinking of flying to Zurich with a big brown paper bag full of dogshit to put on his doorstep and set fire to it Then ring the bell and hope that he answers in his best socks That'll show him Failing that I will shit in my hand and post it through his letterbox and smear it all over his door handle Come to that I think I will do both

UEFA aren't going to withdraw from a competition hosted by one of its member countries. That's just pie in the sky stuff.
The Qatar tournament is a different matter. How anybody is prepared to go along with this charade beats me.

Spotlight now firmly on UEFA and Platini. He must go himself if UEFA does not act given his posturing this week.
What a cluster fuck.
