Fair point Cobsy but then the England team should stop taking the knee then. Because of the WC fiasco it’s becoming pointless and meaningless imo. Do you think players will refuse to play for Newcastle, now they are team funded by a Government who sponsor international terrorism? There’s simply no consistency. It’s simply a case of picking a cause that can suit you and where it’s not going to affect your bank balance. And there was me thinking all footballers were martyrs.

PL players virtue signal to any cause but their bank balances always come first. The hypocrites will wear rainbow laces at St James Park whenever that week is this season aswell as continuing taking the knee for anti-racism/discrimination/equality/BLM or whatever Sky think it stands for that week. No Newcastle player will publicly raise issue with their owners as their tens/hundreds thousands a week contracts are more important. Still waiting for Gareth or an England player to call out Qatar being awarded the WC and their despicable human rights record. Expect we will be waiting a long time for that and the FA and players will shuffle off to the WC turning a blind eye.

Yep, it seems like it's all down to the power of capital.

Classic Daily Mail, more interested in using the article to have a pop at ‘virtue signalling’ than the actual human rights abuses going on. They have a point though Rob, the two aren't mutually exclusive. The human rights abuses are an utter disgrace and it shames FIFA that Qatar were ever awarded the WC but players taking the knee (apparently) in protest against all (and that's the important bit) forms of discrimination, is nothing more than virtue signaling, if, they, by the same token, will quite happily compete in a tournament in a country where (if you're Muslim) being homosexual is punishable by death. I'm not suggesting that they should boycott the World Cup at all but rather they need to seriously reconsider their taking of the knee, if they don't want to look like complete hypocrites.

Much like Anthony Joshua fighting in Saudi mate ….hypocrisy at its finest as he campaigns for equality www.google.co.uk/search?q=did+anthony+joshua+fight+in+saudi&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safariwww.google.co.uk/search?q=saudi+human+rights&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari

Players proposing wearing rainbow laces would be an interesting prospect and one that I am sure have FIFA in a right flap about upsetting the hosts.
