I have got the 5 live coverage on my TV via the red button where you can see the guys in the Studio.
Tony Pulis is one of the guests and he has come out with some really interesting comments in the last 10 minutes that perhaps give an insight into why he is no longer our manager.
The two latest gems are that he would often have players holed up in hotels the night before the deadline and do the deals himself without anyone, including the Chief Executive, Director of Football or Chairman knowing. He would then get the deal agreed and go to the chairman saying "we can have this player on this deal. Can we do it?".
That way he says, he kept things under wraps as he was always worried about things getting out.
He then said, in reference to Technical Directors and things, that Rudgey was a football man and a great help but that nowadays, people are coming in from other professions who just don't get football. He said that this day wasn't normal practice but having been in football all his life he knew how it worked. Others he claimed, coming into football from different backgrounds, accountants and lawyers, haven't got a clue.
Really interesting stuff and watching his reaction as things break is very good.
He has just had another dig by saying that the former WBA chief was a really good football man and if you have someone alongside you making football decisions, they've got to know what they are doing, insinuating in the process, that the new WBA guy isn't particularly so good.

He actually sounds extremely knowledgeable. Surely it's only a matter of time until he is back in a footballing role. .

Tongue-in-cheek maybe, but he just said he once signed a player after the deadline. He phoned up the FA and said "we can't get the fax through", they told him to keep trying and it wouldn't matter if it came through a few minutes late. Could that have been Crouch? He also says he's had players staying in a local hotel the night before deadline day (sometimes without PC knowing) so they couldn't sign for another club.

As soon as I heard him say
"Gareth Barry is a smashing lad and as a manager it doesn't matter if he's not part of your plans because he's good to have around the place"
I turned it off.
This quote alone is enough to summarize the idiot!
Also said on BT Sport after Liverpool game when asked to comment on John Walters penalty miss.
"Nahhhh, he's a smashing lad and he'll be back to take the next one"
He loves 'smashing lads'

I guess this will give people more opportunity to put the boot into Pulis again. His comments highlight precisely the reason it was time to move him out. Football is a multi million pound business these days and like it or not clubs have to run as such. Pulis has proven and now admitted that he's not up to moving into the modern times. Agents, chief executives, scouts etc. are a necessary evil in today's game.
Pulis's old school attitudes got us into the Premier League then kept us there. He is just not the man to take the next step and move into the modern sphere. His no nonsense stance to a lot of the shit with modern football is admirable to an extent but unfortunately will not achieve long term financially sound success for a mid range club like ourselves.
He should be applauded for his achievements but equally so should the board for acting before things went properly tits up.

Interesting. From his angle, the people coming in and running the clubs aren't "football people" and don't understand how football works. An alternative point of view might be that TP can't understand that football is changing rapidly.

In my opinion he should have gone a season before when it was already apparent he wasn't up to the goals Coates wanted. Criticism of Pulis for being pig headed and stuck in his ways is well merited. I'm just glad we dodged the massive bullet last season that could have hit home thanks to the board's reluctance to act. Thankfully we dodged that bullet, the board acted and we seem now to be a club on the up. Let's hope so anyway.

Finding him really good to listen too. Come on give the guy a break - FFS bit of respect for what he did for our club. Some people never cease to amaze me- anyone of had thought he'd had managed us for only the last season! MOVE ON

That's not a fact, that's conjecture. It's a very logical conclusion based on doing simple addition sums and taking on board the public statements of our chairman and benefactor I would say.

Just shows how dense and disrespectful the majority of Stoke supporters are, TP wanted to be our manager always gave 100% and yet so many feel the need to stick the knife in with such sad comments. He's now doing a great job in the media and they just can't help themselves, personally these small minded fans just show themselves up! Jealousy comes to mind!

DJ, I think he's doing a cracking job to be honest. I think he's finally found his niche! I also think he is doing a good job and I've have found his comments very interesting. I would certainly rather listen to him as a pundit than as our manager. His earlier comments about Moyes and his pursuit of Fellaini and Baines as Manure's manager were also very illuminating, particular in relation to the terms he would have left behind his old chairman.
