Man City fan here. Stephen Ireland (or Stevie Fishtank as he was also known by blues) played his very best footie under Mark Hughes. He is a genuine head case but a genius footballer who has lost his way. If, somehow, Les can get the best out of him, you will have one hell of a creative player on your hands. I hope it works out for him with Stoke and I hope you give him your full backing. Interesting debut game perhaps? Welcome to the dogs home, for me this could be our best business of the window. Stephen Irelands best position is the one where we seem to be lacking most, at worst we have a player who will give competition to Adam and best we could have a genuine creative midfield player who can score goals. Hopefully MH knows what makes this guy tick. It is no risk to Stoke, gives Ireland a platform to resurrect his career ad if it goes well we could sign him at the end of his loan period or we pack him back no brainer.

Yes very true...ha..ha.. I have favourite players at stoke like most stokies but what makes them my favourite is a good player, commitment to stoke and being a nice guy. This guy is quite obviously not nice, he doesnt give a shit about his national team, so where does that leave stoke. Horrible signing. I agree fully with this post. Leopards do not change their spots. If he is capable of behaving like this, he will always be capable of doing similar things again. His character is seriously flawed as shown by his previous lifestyle as spread all over the web. Makes pennant look like a model professional. Oh giveover. Who hasn't made up a death or two to get out of work now and again? I've had at least 6 Grans that have died and been resurrected so far.... and been married 18 times.

It's not brilliant, but it's not like he's murdered anyone. No one died. In fact quite a number of people didn't die. I generally base my opinion of who's my favorite player on their footballing ability and whether I feel excited when they have the ball at their feet. I really don't give two hoots about their commitment to the club or what they get up to in their non football playing life. I don't care whether they're a bit of a headbanger as both our signings yesterday appear to be I just want them to get my pulse racing and my appetite drooling as to what they might do on the pitch. I do appreciate commitment and loyalty Denis is my absolute Stoke City hero but those are not qualities that we were in dire need of this window, we needed skill, vision, pace and that bit of unpredictability that make the game so enthralling. Good signings for me would have liked a predatory striker would have been well happy with Le Fondre who would not have cost that much or demanded a stupid salary funny old game opinions eh.

Do we know how fit he is? Has he played any reserve games? Did he do much in pre-season?

there is more to this story Too right...whatever the excuse...he had three people dead and lied...fucking parasite!! I couldn't give a flying fuck, what hes done in the past.I only care what he does, from now.no doubt if he scores a screamer against man city, you will be jumping around with the rest of us.and if he turns out to be shit(which I doubt).then its a relatively small gamble, money wise

Depends if he wants to change, if he comes here with the same attitude he will be a terrible signing, doesn't matter how much ability hes got if he can't be arsed. But if he wants to knuckle down and try to get his career going again then he could be the signing of the season.

You do forget how bloody good he was for that brief time at Man City.
It must be still in him, in as far as he hasn't had any shocking injuries to physically destroy him.
He's saying the right things about knuckling down and showing people what he's all about Don't suppose you can be too hopeful that 4 years of (apparently) being a lazy, disinterested wastrel can be rectified - but it's totally down to him.
Certainly the maverick/flair quotient has gone through the roof with him and Arni in the squad, and the cage door has been blown off with some AK-47s

At least we haven't forked out a boat load of cash for Ireland though.

You are just a pair of knobs a long with good percentage of this board! You think? I was on the terraces in the 70's. No doubt your a more recent supporter from perhaps about 5 years ago. Ireland is not the player for our club, his character is flawed. No loyalty, no morality it will end in tears.

"Tone, I've heard Arnautovic is avaialable on the cheap. What do you reckon?" "Come again Kempy lad, who's that?" "Arnautovic. He's a wide right attacker" "Jon's position? Haha, good one Kempy. What else have you got for me?" "Assaidi?" "Assa who?" "Assaidi. Pacey wide left player" "What is this pace thing you speak of?" "Never mind Tone. What about Ireland from Villa?" "In the fucking cage? Have you gone fucking mental Dave lad? Get me that Jedi Knight on the blower from Palace......"

It will be interesting to see how a dressing room featuring Arnautovic, Ireland, Shea, N'zonzi and Adam handles itself.

We have players in our squad who won't take any shit and now a fair few players who are known for their personality as much as their ability. If it goes wrong, i fear huth might actually kill one of them.

Bringing in awkward, disruptive types was the downfall of Hughes as QPR, hope he hasn't made the same mistake again with us.

If ever there was a player who had a point to prove, it's this guy. A loan deal in which we are paying around a quarter of his wages (according to the sentinel), I don't see why not.
He's at a good age, and the fact that Hughes managed him when he was at his best, surely means he will be playing for a manager he has lots of respect for can only mean good, right?
Plus, the lad will be playing for a contract as he will be a free agent at the end of the season which would mean he will be determined as ever to impress.
Looking forward to seeing him play and happy that it is just a loan deal.
