He's got a lot to prove and his last good game a while ago. There was a good player in there somewhere, hopefully there is still some of it left.

If ever there was a player who had a point to prove, it's this guy. A loan deal in which we are paying around a quarter of his wages (according to the sentinel), I don't see why not. He's at a good age, and the fact that Hughes managed him when he was at his best, surely means he will be playing for a manager he has lots of respect for can only mean good, right? Plus, the lad will be playing for a contract as he will be a free agent at the end of the season which would mean he will be determined as ever to impress. Looking forward to seeing him play and happy that it is just a loan deal. Yes, that's how I see it. By the standards of most modern football deals it is almost risk free. If he cocks up, it will have cost us relatively little in wages. If he regains his Man City form, we have a top, top creative midfielder, who scores goals for a fraction of the wages he is worth. I hadn't seen the story that we are only paying a quarter of his wages. Did I read somewhere that he was on £70k per week at Villa?

Do we know how fit he is? Has he played any reserve games? Did he do much in pre-season? It is not important that WE know, only that MH knows!

What an absolute horrible guy he is....taken from wiki...why would we sign such a guy?? I thought there was no better than playing for your country!!! In September 2007, Ireland was at the centre of controversy when, in the immediate aftermath of a Republic of Ireland international match and days before their crunch game against the Czech Republic, coach Steve Staunton informed him of a telephone call just received from his girlfriend reporting the death of his maternal grandmother. Staunton quickly consented to Ireland's compassionate leave on these grounds, a private jet was chartered for his return. However the media quickly discovered that Ireland's grandmother was not dead, at which point Ireland announced it was his paternal grandmother who died but yet again, reporters discovered that Ireland's paternal grandmother was also still alive, and her relatives had threatened to sue one newspaper that reported her death. Ireland changed his story again, saying one of his grandfathers had divorced, and it was his second wife who had died. That was also quickly discovered to be untrue.[34] Ireland eventually came out with the truth, admitting he had invented a reason to leave the Irish team in order to visit his girlfriend in Cork. I agree. I'd much rather have a model pro like Dean Whitehead or Danny Collins - they might be fucking wank at football but at least they keep their nose clean. Alan Hudson was another player who never should have been entertained by the club. Or Mickey Thomas.

Tell me what a player can do on the pitch, not off it. As long as he does not do something to get himself locked up, he cana have as many fish tanks, pink cars or whatever his inflated pay packet can afford.
Ireland is competition for Adam in the attacking midfield slot in the middle 3, something that was badly needed. He played his best football under Hughes, he must surely know this is his last chance in the top flight, he'll be playing for a new contract with us for next season and I, for one, think he could be a cracking signing. He replaces Dean Whitehead in the squad from last season - need I say any more?

Hes a PRAT, ok hes now a Stoke player but on moral grounds his past antics are dreadfull. Putting him into a squad that contains Irish internationals is in my mind disrespectful to them, or am I being naive and this signing is a way of upseting Walters and Whelan with that in mind. To be chosen for your country and then to lie about your grandmother being dead proves to me that he is a walking time bomb, and I hope it doesnt upset the obvious good spirits which are evident in the squad. Time will tell.

Time will tell. A weird theory if ever I saw one! I doubt that Wilson (who turned his back on Northern Ireland, the country of his birth, after starting his career with them) or Walters (born in Liverpool) will give a toss - and Whelan strikes me as being of sterner stuff as well! Maybe Shea will remember his Irish Great Grandfather and throw a wobbly, but I doubt it!
